So how does the 04/05 season rate against others.

I thought it was a bit inconsistent in comparison to last year.

No crazy days either, didn't use anything under a 4.5 this time round, my most used was a 5.8 which is too big by my book...

So was there less wind or is it my imagination?

Funny, my take on the season that although it started slowly it came good around Christmas... with a whole lot of sailing Jan/Feb.

Sure, maybe no real heavy days (although there were a few up in Gnaraloo early Jan) but quite consistent. Late Feb had me reaching for the 9.3 and 11.0 a few times, but not that much.

Good callouses... that's always an excellent indicator.

Yep, my 5.7 was my most used sail this season, but the trips to the mid west had me going for the 4.1 and 4.4 on occasion. the sail I used next was the 6.5. January was a winner though. I got in 18 session and could have sailed more
Bring on them winter fronts.Oh, that's right, I'm going to Maui

The last really memorable season was 2000/01, an exceptionally good one.

Even though this season began late (end of Nov), it has been equal, if not better, to the above-mentioned. However, the flatspell in the latter half was a head-spinner but that's so typical of West Coast summers.

Speaking from a kiting perspective, I found the crowds heavier with too many strings out in the waves. So going by my own definition, I guess that makes me part of the problem too.

Ofcourse, WA is a big state and views may differ depending on where you sail.

definetely average 5/10 as really short.
The wind was only there from mid-decembre to mid-february, so basically a 2 month season.
January was amazing but that was it.
I hope the fronts will arrive soon as it is getting super boring these days.
or maybe Esperance is an option now.

Howey,

How can you say that last year was crap.

There was heaps more wind in 2004 - it was a great year 8/10. 25-30 knots consistently in January and February

This year was below average - a late short season with not too much wind - 4-5/10. It stopped suddenly without petering out - just a sudden stop. And it was not hot this year at all!

Nowhere near as bad as some though. When the river was closed in 93/94 - that was a RS season. There have been some realy bad seasons - this year = below average

But what to expect with the climate changing ....

I was on holiday all last summer, and it was pretty good - I sailed 75% of days December-Feb (all Coro/Gnaraloo), so cant say what Perth was like.

This season has been **** here in Perth, but OK up north - heres the proof - this is real data, from seabreeze readings:
Month Melville Ocean reef Gero Gnaraloo
% sailable (>=16 knots)
November 36% 57% 71%
December 33% 61% 60% 67%
January 88% 85% 87% 67%
February 50% 54% 57% 61%
March 6% 13% 20% 27%

p.s radmac - are you in mauritania? Im trying to get work there - is there any wind?
