Is it possible to use polyester resin on epoxy based boards and epoxy based plastic coated boards... ie f2 waves/airs etc

There is a problem mixing epoxy & polyester, but only if the underlying resin isn't fully cured, forget which way round it is, but one of them will definately stop the other going off.
I've used polyester on an epoxy board with no problems at all. the board was heat cured (black plastic bag in sun for 2 days) with a coat of 2 pack marine urethane on top.
Surfboard quality urethane gives a nice clear finish that doesn't go yellow, also it's harder than epoxy so possibly lasts a bit longer, I haven't proved that yet, but it's still good after 2 years.
Not sure about the F2 finish, if it's going on to moulded plastic I'd go with epoxy, polyester doesn't stick as well to some surfaces.

Yeah sorry non skid, I know polyester dosent mix with some foams but was unsure about once it is away from foam and compatibility with plastics.

Thanks decrepit, exactly what I was after... non yellowing epoxy hardener is not common here and being epoxy costs a premium whereas surfboard stuff costs next to nothing and is ultra clear and non yellowing as you said.

Might have to test a little bit on the f2 to see if it sticks... every f2 i've ever tried has the crappiest non skid that wears off very quick

polyester over most skins usually makes colours or stickers run and eventually flakes off (sometimes quickly)
a good non skid is made from clear 2 pack car paint mixed with international yacht paints "intersurf" non skid powder available from a ships chandlery and some flattening base available from panel beating suppliers,oh and a dash of thinners.
its best sprayed on at low pressure with a standard gravity feed spraygun and the compressor set to 20 to 30 psi.
most other resin based non skid and grit combinations wreck your boards finish.

Thanks greenleader, so if painting a board is it possible to sprinkle the intergrip on the last coat of flowcoat? Will the flowcoat hold or is it not strong enough?

2 pack urethane is plenty strong, but it has to be thick enough to get a good grab on whatever you use.
I've only used castor sugar, unless there's enough paint/resin to cover a grain it will just brush off.
Not sure how thick you do a flow coat, I'm only a beginer spray painter.
But if you're going to put it in the paint, you definately need to get a good colour coverage first, (with castor sugar anyway) the sugar seems to dilute the colour, making an otherwise solid colour transparent.

my method only works with a spray gun and compressor.
you could feasibly roll on the two pak and then using a flour sifter sprinkle on the intersurf.
i would do some test cases on another surface first.
and castor sugar is for baking cakes.

we had to stop using it years ago when our workshop developed a severe ant problem
