Changed cars recently and 2021 Mitsubishi outlander model doesn't have the raised rail to attach cross racks on - has a removable rubber strip insert and i think there are two options:

Option 1. remove strip and install rails and then cross racks

Option 2. There are threaded inserts in the strip somewhere and attach racks directly directly

Anyone put racks on and have recommendations?

Been using Seasuckers on my car for 3 years now, not this model but worth looking in to. I just remove them every day after using them. Some regular cleaning and maintenance and 2 boards on them.

There's roof racks for every car, just use the selector on a site like Rhino Rack, select your car and model, and it tells you exactly what you'd need. Sometimes you can choose between multiple options depending on the vehicle.

Have a look where the gaps are in the strip, as the captive nuts under there may be placed such that racks are too close together for carrying things like a SUP. If that is the case you will need the one with feet that sit above the door, and a bracket that fits between the door and roof - like old school gutter mounts but it screws up the door upper external seal a bit.

There will be options in both styles from a few companies. I'd go Thule or Rola, lots of issues with some Prorack letting go (thread here....?) and Yakima changing after ownership/manufacturing facility changes or something. Pay the extra....
Having said that I just go Prorack for my work van is they were the right price, and the length adjustment system was superb. Really well thought-out product.
