While waterstarting at the end of the Sydney airport runway yesterday arvo, a school of what I thought were huge mullet swarmed about 10 feet from me. I was a bit worried one of them might have a bit of a nibble on my toe.

When I returned to shore, another sailor who had sailed past, and thus a much better vantage point, asked if I had seen the school of baby sharks at the end of the runway.

Think I might turn around at the halfway point for the next few outings.

Last weekend it seemed everyone was uphauling (me included) with all the talk of white pointers. Yesterday we were all waterstarting again, but today?? Baby sharks means mumma sharks, right?

The trouble with the half way point for gybing is it's so danged choppy. The water next to the runway has a fast smooth 6 inch chop (measured at the face) that's a pleasure to gybe in.

See you all out there again today? 18 - 23 knots. You know you want it!

Autumn is the season for sharks to start venturing up estuaries - that’s not to say there not there any other time. We will start hearing about more shark stories in Sydney Harbour / Parra river stay tunned.

Not really small sharks will not be where a big shark such as a tiger is, they dont like being eaten either.

Is it true that you can test for sharks by throwing a chicken into the water? If the chicken gets out it means there are no sharks, right?

Throwing a chicken in the water??? A live chicken or a dead one?

Apparently chicken carcass makes excellent crab bait

It has something to do with dolphins being the second smartest animals on the planet (and us third)... A thankyou for when the earth (sorry, bio organic computer operated by mice) is demolished for a intergalatic highway (or something) by the vorgons(?)... Bit of guess work there, but something like that...

We see sharks all the time while kiting down at Windang, Hammer heads, Bronze whalers and Black tips around 5 to 6 foot long. They're after the massive schools of salmon. The shark spotting plane is constantly circling our beach. Just don't fall !!!!!!!!!!
