What happens next is up to u. U CREATE THE NEXT STORY IF U SAIL THERE.

HE HAS ESCAPED THE JAWS OF A MAN EATER .BELIEVE U ME IF IT HAD COME FROM THE OTHER SIDE HIS FOOT AND LEG WOULD HAVE, BEEN TAKEN OFF.

Deep blue water == big sharks == who is next

The seeds of fear had been realised, ALARM BELLS RANG THROUGH EVERYONE.

fall off and it was like trying to get the door closed In the FILM the panic room.? or the car started with a physico, trying to get in. [}:)]

I like your style 'King of the Point'.
My final comment on this frightening episode is on of great concern.
I spoke to Marc yesterday and asked him if he was planing or not when the shark bit he board and stopped him dead in the water. He said he was not fanging but he was definitely planing. This is not good. Now I thought once I was up and going the wife the kids or any thing with attitude or teeth could not get to me. Not only that, now on cross offshore days I can hear my wife nagging at me from the car park. The Bommie was always scary place but now it is really scary. Apparently nobody has sailed it since. Happy sailing

I know of 2 other cases involving sailboarders,

The first was in S.A AT Middlton 12 years ago. whilst waterstarting in the surf/white water a 2-3footer latched onto his leg, which was eviedent after a wetsuit inspection ,Brent was the punter he had to let his back hand go and puntch the **** out of the thing, it took a while to let go.

The other was more serious and took place of STANSBARY YORK PENNINSULA S,A, sten house bay.?
He was SAILING alone and apparently an efficient sailor, in solid WIND flat open deep water. having a fat time, with no problems.
apparently WHILST
water starting come BLASTING/ sailing he was taken out right.

SOME ONE OUT THERE WILL HAVE MORE INFO ON THIS ONE.

SO MUCH FOR WINDSURFING GEAR SCARING THEM OFF.[}:)]

personally I prefer my illusions... As they say, ignorance is bliss.

3 attacks aint that bad in 12 years, considering how many surfers, swimmers and divers get nailed

I'm with you Puggsy, except I quit altogether! If I never go in the water, I will never be at risk. Until sharks grow legs and roam the land

Comrades
I have just spoken with a close comrade of mine who was in the water at the time of the strike
While it understandably shocked and worried sailors it has not stopped people sailing the spot where it happened
quote:
Apparently nobody has sailed it since.

in fact my comrade tells me he has just enjoyed 30 days straight of sailing with nothing bigger than a 5.0m and nothing smaller than head to logo high surf (plenty of mast high days)

He is currently in Gero restocking and enjoying the luxuarys of a city beofre heading back up north to Gnarloo for another month or so

Just for the record... more people die from bee stings than shark attacks !
Get out there and enjoy it... no point worrying about the 'what if's'

Thanks for the wake up Krem. From here on in while I'm sailing my main focus will be to keep a watch out for bees. ****, I had no idea of the risk I have been taking. Thanks dude.

Bees dangerous very much for certain yar
Also more chance die on way to beach in car.
Sometimes driving here is as bad as in mother Russia... many people with much vodka driving to fish market not looking for other people on road.
Sometimes they drive on wrong side of road yar.
Here in Australia all driving on the wrong side... but it only get dangerous when people drive on right side... this very confusing for sure as the wrong side is the right side !
If for you are concerned about sharks for sailing you must be thinking about wrong side = right side theory for driving.
Many time is too be taken thinking about this... no time for thinking about shark. This Baltic logic yar !
Kremlin

PS - Shark very good for salting when not much herring at fish market
PPS - I from Russia not Poland but why for there is no right choice for Russia only wrong choice for Poland ?

The old fisherman who came out with the lure theory at Gnaraloo emailed me today with this report.

"After consulting an eminent Marine Biologist from Murdoch University and doing a comparitive analysis of the shape of the teeth marks in the board, the attack location and the reported size of the shark, there are two possible candidates. By the aggresive nature of the attack, the expert's first guess was Tiger shark, but that was not supported by the evidence.

The teeth are clearly the conical, puncturing type, rather than the blade type that a Tiger would have. There are two possibilities

One - mako - the fastest shark in the sea
Two - black tip shark - sometimes dangerous

Have a look in your fish ID book - you will see that the teeth of each one are displayed. When you combine this with the actual shots of the damage to the board and the fact that those two sharks live in the Gnaraloo area and grow to the correct size, that becomes our shortlist of candidate species.

Our expert is now going to consult with a top shark expert from South Africa to get a definite ID"

I will let you know his findings so we all know what we are dealing with out at the bommie

We met a heap of bull sharks at the same spot a year or so ago. We were snorkling about 80m off Fencies (just north of the Bombie)and were stupid enough to go and check out a massive school of bait fish when a few 6'-7' sharks cruised in, right up to us and made quick 90deg turns about arm length away. They were pretty excited and circled around coming in from different directions. If that wasn't scary enough a couple more arrived and all of a sudden it was like a scene out of The Blue Planet (that ABC doco) with shark silhouettes everywhere.
