I know how you feel, multiple BCC's that eventually needed a plastic surgeon to remove. As a pasty white boy I've been pretty sun smart most of my adult life but I think the damage was done as a youngster being out in the sun a lot thinking I was invincible

shoddy shave
Good post!
with the multiple; did you have bcc's manifesting in less exposed skin areas?

No not yet, the forearm involved multiple punch biopsies where some showed BCC. I was then referred to a plastic surgeon who was able to take the whole area without a skin graft. Luckily the boundaries were all clear afterwards. As nasty as it looks it's barely noticeable now.

Geez Robbo. I've had 5 sites. One at Stage 2. Most recent was at the start of this year on my neck (window side when driving). Barely noticeable but half a dozen stitches and three attempts to get it all

Are we supposed to avoid direct sunlight?

Lots get skin cancers in much cooler climates.

Geez it's bad enough getting chunks of skin taken out! Can't imagine the process of melanoma in the eyes!

The skin cancer clinic I go to now is brilliant!
Very efficient, smooth process and no pain. !
That was only done last Friday and is healing well.

Not worth delaying skin checks!

Cripes!
Mines only 6 stitches. I'm stoked to find waterproof dressings..It's survived one sail so far..

I counted 7 stitches on yours? But I'm not trusting the waterproof dressings - never want to increase the chance of an infection.

it's quite invasive...even with a good plastic surgeon (skillful internal sutures)
area around the eyes very prone to UV damage..don't postpone on -even tiny innocent looking- adverse items

No, local anesthesia...had a great oddball surgery team working on it, very pleasant actually. Almost pissed my pants laughing with their team dynamics/banter over the bbq smells of the electro-cauterization etc..

Just saying...small little thing, like a clogged pore (but a bcc nevertheless) vs the amount of tissue they have to remove...
Be aware, prevent and/or don't sit on it

Yes I was a bit worried. It bled, but that was more from picking up branches and putting them in the trailer.
That was before I went sailing.
I figured having a long sleeve rashie and then a winter wettie over it would stop most of the water.
5 day mark and going well.
I sailed within 2 days of getting stitches.
The Dr said it was ok after 1 day..she knows me and knew it was useless trying to keep me off the water.

I had a similar one on my nose. Just like a pimple that came and went. Occasionally I'd knock the top off it.
I had to get a flap of cheek skin pulled over my nose to fill the hole.

Damn, that's some brutal tinkering mid-face... and exactly what the surgeon mentioned from a procedure done right before my slot...the longer undiagnosed/not acted upon the bigger the disfigurement potential.

The one in the photo came up as a pimple the first week, had formed a scaly head by the second and was removed by the third. She said it hadn't got into underlays.
I was surprised at how quickly it grew. Keep an eye out for anything unusual or quick growing.

I wont be seeing that Dr anymore! when he started to cut with the scalpel - I felt all of the cut and yeah had some choice words!
End up in Emergency less than 24 hrs after the BCC removal - due to infection and my arm swelled up like Popeye's arm!. Went on oral anti biotics and now have developed some sort of rejection to the Anti biotics? Just fkn Great!

Changed to a Skin Cancer clinic where they actually specialize with Skin Cancer and a F... load more professional! Was nervous as hell with my neck cut out but they did a bloody good job! All clear too! No issues at all after the procedure.

Infections in wounds are nasty. A couple of years ago I spent 2 days in hospital on a antibiotic drip recovering from an infection in a stitched wound from a fin cut. The specialist recommended that in future I let wounds heal from the inside out , i.e. no stitching.

Cripes.. My Dr put the anaesthetic needle in about 5 times around the spot.. Hurt like hell. She then got a sharp needle and kept prodding the skin and asking if I could feel it.
It took about 10 mins of this to finally not feel anything and I was pretty nervous and paranoid by then!
Luckily everything was ok and there was no pain.
