I am looking at starting up a social club of windsurfers
It will be a basic mailing list. Once in a while we will have nonformal gatherings around the place. Pubs/Clubs/sailing spots.

Joining is Free.
Once in a while you will get an email saying : Hey lets meet at ****** for drinks and/or sailing. and you attend if you want.

I was just wondering what the interest would be.

If you are keen to join you can email me at [email protected]

Regards

Last year Windsurfing WA offered social membership for $20
but most of that was taken by the Australian Windurfung Association.

This year WWA proposing to offer free social membership and more regular gatherings than previous years. I was one of the few in the committee who put their hand up to run it.

But from the above comments I dont think i will bother.

What would we talk about in your social meeting! how it was years back when we used to windsurf?
no one want to be social when there's no wind
Just think you got the wrong timming to start it.
However if during winter there is a gathering somewhere near a spot. I'll be there

now if u wanted to make this work you should have cut straight to the point and said "alchol appreciation society" now it does sound a bit ****y but it is a bit more classy then "lets get pissed" and more to the point then "social club". whats more the beer appreciation club at uni has the largest member base and hence the most funding.

we were going to put it on seabreeze too.

The social club is also a means to link beginners with people who can sail already.

Windsurfing WA is trying to 'contain' as many windsurfers as possible this year, to organise casual events for the good of windsurfing as a whole.

WE are trying to encourage more events like Albertos. I heard it went pretty well and was a great night.

Silver,

Your idea is great!!!!!!!

I support what your doing, and encourage you to keep at it. People's responses to it is about their stuff not your idea.

People like me don't usually go to stuff like that basically coz I work with people, all day, every day, and my chill out is to be as far away from people as possible. (plus I don't want people to see how really boring I am in real life)

You would need to be technically insane to wanna hang around with me anyway, just ask Elmo!

anti social behavier normally involves alcohol
alcohol kills people while driving
it is linked to diseases and obesity
destroys families
causes unwanted (teenage) pregnancies
ruins lives and innocent people
sends people homeless
there is nothing good about drinking

Greenroom,

The one good thing about drinking from my experience was that it was easier to get a .............when people were intoxicated, so thank god for alcohol!!!!!!!!
I would never have got a..... without it!!!!!!! Please don't deny old desperates their one chance in life for a bit of JOY!!

Silver,

Just an idea to add to yours, Windsurfing has been around for about 30 years now and it has evolved a few cultural norms of it's own, as say cavemen such as homo-erectus did with their pillaging etc. which was quite normal for them, but people these days would call that behaviour piracy as we would now consider such acts as deviant (Had to throw that one in), Back to Topic........

...........windsurfing is very social in the rigging and derigging process, where people hang around and talk about the conditions and the sail they just had. So it would make sense to organise a social event at the rigging area at the end of the sailing day. eg. BBQ,
Alberto's idea was also good as it followed on from another cultural development which is the social aspect of windsurfing shops!! You can talk and drink and look at windsurfing toys, how delicious!!!!!!

The rigging area idea is a possible option as Then people don't have to break their routines and have to commit to something else in their already busy lives.

Just an idea, hope you get some ideas from it.

once we have a descent following, bbq all round the place will occur. What a great promotion for the sport and a great way to show the support windsurfers have for one another (provided they arent on my wave, in my way)

I think this is a great idear.

You can take then take it a step further. The only way you are going to get this bunch to take something seriously is to offer them some thing of common interest. Why not get Scotty or Ant to run some sort of seminar on wind surfing. Run through some vids, comment on the world cup etc. Get some small door prizes from sponsors. BBQ. It can be run at a shop which may wish to have a few specials on the night. We might all learn some thing.I have seen this done via a similer web site involving fishing & it works.

chad this whole idea sounds great , but you know that good ideas will never be passed by the committee so keep it been the people who will enjoy it and the social club will be a great success . shine on w.a brothers

Getting guys to do clinics is easy. But i need everyone to send me an email at [email protected] first (subject line ADD or similar). then i can get the ball moving a bit more.

Sinces it is free im sure shops will put up their hands and hopefully offer invitations once I have a few 100 people on the list.

We have a glass ceiling with no formalities, no accounts, no politics hopefully, no stress...... Great Hey :)

Sorry Chad, couldn't resist pointing this one out:

"A glass ceiling is an unofficial barrier to an upper management or other prominent position within a company or other organization which certain groups, particularly women, are perceived to be unable to cross, due to discrimination. The term refers to the inconspicuous nature of such barriers, compared to formal barriers to career advancement."

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass_ceiling

I don't think that's such a great advertisement...

Sorry to say nic but im on Mikes side with this one.
It is easy to organise all sorts of things for free but where WWA goes comes insurance and a whole heap of other crap.
This will be my little project for the summer and see how it goes. It might fail, it might not

If it is such a great idea, why havent i got more emails at [email protected]

Proposed Idea: Pool Comp at Essex st pool hall. Entry: you must buy yourself and one mate a beer plus small donation of $2 or so (for table hire) I will organise cheap/Free table hire and cheap Alcohol!!!!

Who would be keen to come along???
I heard you love to play with Balls n Sticks Mike?? The more balls and sticks in the one place the happier Mike gets....

get someone to do some filming at one of the storms, then organise a pub with a screen to show the footage, plus maybe some cheap beers???? there must be someone around who has a video camera, and there also has to be someone with a broken leg or something that cant sail and is keen to stand around in the rain for a few hours... well the second one might be difficult, but it is possible...
