Hi Tushar,
the photos were taken at the southern Broadwater on the Gold Coast. It is just on the north side of Surfers Paradise. Southport is the suburb where they launch from and the park from where poeple rig is known as "The Train" because there is an old steam engine in the park. There are a couple of long sandbars which flatten out the water and give some really glassy speed runs even in high winds. It is like a mini Sandy Point (in Vicoria). The great part is the bars are just at the right angle to give ideal northeasterly and southeasterly runs, which are our best winds.
Thanks for checking out the site! As I get free time I try and add to it.

Hi Justan,
Thanks for the info on Southport. I've just been up to the Gold Coast the past few days and I sort of wondered where the windsurfers were since it was quite windy last Monday. Do you have any problem with sharks around the Train though? I've heard there are some pretty big bull sharks in and around the lakes and canals in the Gold Coast area. Otherwise, it looks like a nice place to windsurf!

Hi Maria,
I don't know of anyone who has said they have seen a shark in the broadwater. The Broadwater is relatively clean and clear there is so much boating activity that I don't think there is much marine life at all. No one ever catches any sized fish. There are alot of sting rays but they are very quick to get out of your way. There is the occasional dolphin, and I just saw a pair there on monday! Most of the shark encounters happen further up river in the canals and even then the recent deaths were due to people swimming in the canals at dawn and on dusk when the bull sharks seem to be most active and are eating. I'm happy to say I have only ever seen one shark while sailing and that was at Noosa just in the river mouth. One is enough fo me :)
You have nothing to be worried about at the broadwater. Just watch out for jet skiiers, sea planes, and the large cruisers which stop for nothing.
Cheers
Justan
