Interesting Ive just been reading Guy Cribbs tips & he says when overpowered to NOT try & keep shoulders outboard but to squat more, hang off the boom & weight the mastfoot.( at least i think thats what he said.)& Ive been trying to change my stance to have the number 7 shape..? Looks like I was on the right track to start with!Once the winds up I seem to spend half my life overpowered so i suppose Ive just developed the squat as a survival stance..( I wear a seat harness).

get back to you if we ever get any wind - forgotten what I do if overpowered -

In the past I have usually hung on went too fast, had a few out of control jumps until I crashed and broke something - all with a smile on my face without thinking about it too much - then go and change down sails

I think someone did an article saying spread the knees out wards when severely o/powered (Peter Hart I think) - increases the load through your harness - mast base etc - may be the same effect in a different teaching method

Sounds pretty kooky though sailing with knees bent out - makes me laugh thinking about it - like one of those crew that surfs fully crouched waving there hands around.

I'd agree with that. As long as it's not TOO windy, I'll crouch down and load up the boom as much as I can. Seems to keep the board in the water better and you have a lower centre of gravity which I figure is a good thing in this type of situation.
