So my 114 has reached end of life. It’s been a great board - early to plane, large wind range, pretty fast and I can slog it home when the wind dies.
Any thoughts on a suitable replacement?

I have Fox Dyno 85, Fox 95-105 and 120 now replaced by the new Fox 115, I can recommend the Fox board. I have earlier sailed with the Starboard Atomic and the Foxboards are easier to handle and with higher max velocity in choppy waves. I mean you can handle it without much effort.

Cheers, what sail sizes are you using with that 115?

The new Starboard range is pretty good .I would choose the same width or a volume you are interested in .
I Personally like the 67 and 73 Isonic. they seem to handle chop well ,I would like a 119. curve for mucking around on .

Thanks guys. Might have look at some of those Starboards. Carve or Futura seem to fit the bill.

Sorry I'll be the dissenter. Lol
the atomIQ was famously unpopular as it was so eggy as to be dragging at planing threshold. If you love it then great - but anything new might feel so different to you that's not so easy as to ask 'what is similar'
I suggest nothing is
maybe ride before buy will be needed

Like all things starboard it seems to depend on year as to whether it was liked or not…

Well it was massively different and didn't last long. I think RRD did something like that too? Briefly, about same time ?

I'll have to 100% disagree on this one. I've owned three of them all the same size or 100 L every time I sold them to get something better.

Ended up buying back because for Freerace Free ride going fast in a huge wide range of conditions and sale sizes there's nothing like it and proofs in the pudding.

Slow to plain draggy? NO, Stable Yes , you do have to push it a little bit off the wind. It's relatively short but nothing in comparison to for example the Futura which is crazily needing to be pushed off the wind and has less the one I had an overly excessive front rocker, zero glide stop start, fast when you get it going but nothing before hand, the carve, the one I had was only a couple of seasons ago and I'm not sure why they called it a carve because that's the one thing it was absolutely crap at... didn't really get that Board at all, It was neither here or there not fast not manoeuvrable just dull. Probably good for a beginner maybe?

The nose profile on that Atom being a little bit more traditional pointed rather than the Flatt end helps with the profile of the board and the rails and the gybe ability no doubt. It's a very durable Board aside from the paint the wood carbon finish. It's a little bit of forgiveness as well and the extra thick deck pads are awesome as well. Does my head in why any board manufacturer doesn't use Double padding? It's just crazy.

If I was designing a board from scratch for the above brief it would be very similar. It would have a little bit of V or concave upfront and it would have a raised toe position at the back. Centre straps a little bit and not much else would change. I'd use hex screws for the foot pads which I actually have already done on all mine that matches my fin bolts bit like the Fox/ Severne that's a really good idea.

I probably just described the Fox 115 from limited viewing I've seen of it I haven't ridden it, so I can't comment too much but it's got some of the above attributes from what I can see, or possibly the Tabou rocket/rocket wide? I have a one 105 rocket And that's an amazing beast as well but a different beast. It's probably an awesome Defi Wind board and it's probably one I'll never sell either because it's exceptional at what it does, the Atom is a bit more rangey then the Rocket and tend to use it more here where we get atrociously gusty up and down wins that Drop extreme amounts the Atom gets you through and all gets you home when the wind lets you down bit easier if it's nuking my go to is the Rocket

I've only ridden one other size Atom and it was quite large. I can't recall the size. It was a learners board and I actually hated it but to be fair I do hate most fat wide boards anyway so that's not a real fair comment. I've owned and ridden modern Carves, Futuras and Iso’s and rate the modern Iso highly great fast board that isn't hard too control or handle, the other two you can keep.
