Hi guys
Sunday and Monday s looking like straight west. Where to sail in Botany Bay? I haven't sailed in weeks as it was dead lately so looking to this weekend. Can it be actually any good.

La Perouse might be OK. If there is a hint of North in it, consider other places like Kurnell.

try foreshore drive in botany, you basically sail on the eastern side of the north/south runway. It tends to make for very flat water and the runway gives a nice aerofoil effect for the wind. Just be careful of the dead bodies they bury in the sand dunes there and the rock spiders who keep em company

Foreshore drive is what i was thinking, just rigging seems a bit pain, next to the cars passing by over 90kmh. I was driving there few month ago and saw one guy rigging right on the road. Could be you sick_...ey

yeah oz, nothing like rigging on a median strip either side of a 4 lane 80kmh zone!

I took a long drive over to Kurnell on Anzac day just to have a sticky beak, Since the wind gods have let us down again. It seemed like a good spot to sail once you get past the groynes. I think I'll try it next westerly. Oh did I say it was a long drive.

How is it at SansSouci? near the sailing club at Captain Cook Bridge?

here my 5 cents for sailing in Botany:

The bold spots indicate my favs for each respective direction.

NW: Kurnell (large chop), La Perouse (very very gusty), Foreshore Drive (flat water, gusty)

W: Kurnell, La Perouse (gusty behind harbour wall), Foreshore Drive (flat water)

SW: La Perouse (best direction for La Perouse), Kurnell (gusty near shore)

SSW: Dolls Point (chop), Foreshore Drive (flat water)

S: Kyeemagh

SE: Kyeemagh

E: Kyeemagh (usually bring a lot of rain, rare direction)

NE: Kyeemagh (flat to small chop)

N: Dolls Point (chop, rare direction), Kurnell

I'm guessing quite short runs davmen. As it is the runs aren't the longest in a southerly which is the best direction for that spot. Definately worth a look though I reckon.

I drove past Foreshore drive yesterday inbetween appointments and caught up with Katapult which was a nice surprise. That place is one SWEET speed run in a westerly if it's blowing!! I've never wanted a Sydney westerly more!!!
How fast did you go Katapult?

Hey Sick-em,

Foreshaw drive is a decent location in a westerly. Managed a 25.5kts in the gusts. The wind was very gusty. Only had 1 or two runs with 15kts gusts coming in. The wind dropped off completely after about an hour. Cant wait for a decent wind there. Its super smooth in a westerly.

Katapult.

p.s. Stay clear of the sand dunes.
