Soon they'll have an iphone app for it; just press a button and let your phone do the kiting!

Coincidentally, Festo make tools, but not the type you find on the lower end of kite lines. But now they have got both covered

I did see were on large oil tanker boats that they are using this system to pull the boats at a 20% reduction in fuel cost the theory is that this reduces the carbon footprint of the oil companys .

Not my words but apt for the thread title.

Quote: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windsurfing
"It (windsurfing) can be compared to chess in that there are many pieces moving in different directions which you have to keep track of. After about 10 games, most finally catch on. Learning to kite board is more like learning checkers."

Before the argument starts, ask yourself, if you've played both games of chess and checkers, which is the most mentally challenging and stimulating game after the basic game is learnt?

So why do we keep improving sails to make them easier to use?

It's written on the internet (and Wikipedia no less) so it must be true... lol

can somebody here please tell me if kiting is so easy why ex champion windsurfers like robby naish and pete cabrinha never made it as kiters. they are both good but are both a long way off being world class. both have been involved with kiting for a long time.
maybe its just a different skill set?

I can't find the answer on Wikipedia ......maybe they are just becoming old dudes like myself and trying to be freakin' awesome at everything (in my case 'anything') is getting harder nowadays. I'd be interested to know which world class kiters around the same age are as well rounded watermen as them? Especially Naish.

find this on the net

Robby Naish (born Robert Staunton Naish, on April 23, 1963, in La Jolla, California) was one of the first athletes to gain long-lasting international fame in the sport of Windsurfing. At a young age, his father, competitive surfer and surfboard shaper Rick Naish, moved the family from California to Kailua, Hawaii, on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. It was there, at the age of 11, that Robby took up the fledgling new sport of windsurfing. Shortly thereafter, in 1976, he won his first overall World Championship title, at the age of 13, beating many adult competitors whose experience and maturity were no match for his exceptional talent.

Competing as an amateur, he went on to win successive World Championship titles from 1977 to 1979. After the emergence of the Professional Boardsailors' Association (PBA) — later to become the Professional Windsurfing Association (PWA) — Naish won the Overall World Champion title from 1983 to 1987, and the Wave World Champion title in 1988, 1989, and 1991.

In the nineties, branching out into new pursuits, Naish became a noted competitor in the emerging sport of Kiteboarding. In 1998, he won the kiteboarding slalom world title. In 1999, he won kiteboarding world titles in both slalom and jumping.

Kiting is easier than windsurfing. That's a good thing. It's easier to have more fun.

Windsurfing is harder than kiting. That's why most windsurfers never master the carving gybe, never land a jump planing, never get through the shore break in a strong onshore wind, never manage to actually surf a wave (most kiters can't do that one either).
