The first sail of the season in canberra was a big one, so I rigged the 5m on the hypersonic. Typically it was gusty and when I hit a big gust the board would lift out of the water as I'm planing along. It only happened a few times, anyone know how to stop it? Or make it happen more?
Thanks

use a smaller fin to stop it...

Look ahead and upwind for the bigger gusts, grit your teeth a bit, sheet in harder and hang on. Swinging your weight a bit forward to put more mast foot pressure down and hopefully keep the board on the water throught the big gusts.

For a 5m on a hypersonic you should definately using no bigger than a 32cm fin. Just because it is small sail dont run it all the way back on the board, i run mine about a quarter of the way forward and it is quite good (this is around the sweet spot for most sail sizes on hyper). You could probably run it forward almost to half way if you are still being lifted.

Revhead were you at Birubi for the wave event? Changed your mind and are now going to Coffs?

Get a smaller board. I was dragging a jumbo down the runway at Botany Bay as it was taxi-ing to take off position. A gust hit, board became airborne, my feet came out of the straps but I was still hooked in. It must have been an amazing site for the people on the plane. Survived with only a sore neck.

Definately get a smaller board - it did the trick for me.

Thanks everyone, and g'day Crash. Yep I was at the Birubi waiting fest. Coffs is too far from Canberra for a weekend, besides, gota give everyone else a chance at a title

I reckon pushing on the front foot and a smaller board are the go. I had a small fin on already and was getting fantastic spin outs whenever the wind gods wanted a laugh. Top fun tho, knowing you're about to hit a gust which will put you almost out of control. The Hyperflyonic is a good Canberra board 'cause we dont get big winds often.

But also for wave comps, gota update the old footy finned glass wave board!
