Local News - Safety Bay turned on a big Weekend with a solid 20 - 25knots pushing the 65 competitiors down the 20(felt like 50)km. A great tussle at the front of the race between Chris Lockwood, Jesper Orth, Peter Volwater and Ant Baker took place with Jesper only just nudging ahead of Peter close to the finish. As usual the weed played havoc with those brave/silly enough to venture out with a pointer fin. On the Sunday Peter showed the competition how it's done and all in all the National Slalom Titles look like they are going to be the hardest fought for years.... Make sure you check it out - if not at South Beach on the 1st 2nd and 3rd then catch the action on Channel 10 News.
International News - Scott McKercher has taken out the PWA World Wave Title and new Aussie racing sensation – Allison Shreeve has taken out the 2004 PWA Women’s World Racing Crown – having missed out on Olympic selection. Congratulations to both sailors – Keep flying the Aussie flag for us.
Speedsailing - Finnian Maynard (BVI) has taken back the outright World Speed Record from Yellow Pages Endeavour with a speed of 46.82 Knots (nearly 87 km/h - Now Ratified).
WA speedster, Chris Lockwood spent a month in Sandy Point, Victoria and dominated the Victorian Speedweek with some very fast runs, peaking at 44knots and with an averaged GPS speed of 42.3knots (all on his slalom gear) – watch for him this summer in the racing…..
Season opener Party – Thanks to all those who attended and got in the spirit of the night with some great costumes.
Best costumes went to Matt Stevens (a lovely Safari Suit) and Nicole Bell for looking like she just stepped off the set of an Austin Powers movie. The committee made a huge effort to pull the night together so thanks to all those who helped out.
Other Big Social Occasions –
Lancelin’s Party is gearing up to go off as usual on the 8th of Jan and WWA are looking at the possibility of having a river cruise for our Season Presentations / Closing Party on the 19th March.
Keep watch for details and get your tickets early….
Help Needed – As organisers of the National Slalom Titles at the beginning of 2005, WWA are looking for a few volunteers to assist us on the day as marshals and for recording results. If you are able to help on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of January or even just a couple of those days please let us know.
Phone Dan on 04 282 55005 to put your name down.
Wishing you all a safe and happy festive season and may the sea breezes blow on your days off work… Regards
Daniel Engdahl
