Just a thought but what about we organise an unofficial crazy stunt like a coast run from Mandurah to Lancelin.

There would of course be checkpoints to stop off for a rest and refreshments before continuing. Perhaps Safety Bay, Fremantle, Ocean Reef, etc.

Is this doable?

Who would be interested?

Very funny comments but on the serious side this can be done.

The idea comes from a story on Boardseeker.com where they have just completed a run from Bournemouth to Brighton.
That’s a whopping 107 miles. Mandurah to Lancelin would be around that figure I reckon.

The stats for the UK run are:

Distance = 107 Miles
Sailing Time = 5Hrs 40 Mins
Resting Time on Land = 2Hrs 45 Mins
Resting Time on Water = 25 Mins

yeah, a lot of guys in the ledge to lano complain about cramps and stuff from holding the same posture for that race (and its only about 12-15kms).
I think you would have to train up before you gave that a go.

Don't forget distance sailed can be a lot different depending on wind direction.

Part of the gps challenge is a distance category, it's been going for 2 months now and nobody's done 100km yet!
My ruler tells me Mandurah to Lancelin as the crow flies (12km off shore at Freo) is 175Km.
If you had a westerly and could do it in one tack, (sore ankles) and average 40km/hr that's about 4hrs travel time.

Yes doable, and Rottnest wouldn't be a bad stop.

But with a S.W. seabreeze, travel time may blow out to 5 1/2 6hrs.
Say you get an early one and can start about 1100 with breaks you'll be in Lano fairly late, hopefully the breeze hasn't died!

Count me out I'm getting too old for that sort of challenge.
I'd want to try here to Rockingham first, to see how I hold up.

Having done the Cervantes excursion which is a similar wind direction (if we have southerly)

That was 10km as the crow flies but 18kms on gps tacking down wind.

Have thought of Mandurah to Safety bay though, that would give you a good case of jelly legs

Hey Kite Boy,

Just to the left of the "z" key is a button marked "shift". I know that it requires the use of more than one finger at a time, so maybe when you get past primary school you might consider learning how to use it.

I'm not even going to consider imparting the subtle nuances of the apostrophe...

Anyway the gist of this is: If you want to play with the big boys, learn some punctuation.

Kite Boy often has neck looks like it's sunburnt

It's actually a circumcision mark, the redness is friction burns from where he keeps stroking it

Hey Kite Boy, I'll take you up on your bet but how about we raise the stakes to $500... or does the thought of working triple shifts at McDonalds until you turn 18 in 3 years time worry you ?

IT took me 2 hours 20 mins. to sail from Warnbro to Scarbrough a couple of seasons ago if it helps. Was on wave gear with a 4.7 in 25kt seabreeze. Could of done it in 2 hrs without wavesailing along the way. Note; it's not a straight line, with zig zagging you double the distance

The Ledge to Lancelin is a lot longer because they have marks out to sea that you have to go around. Just doing it for fun would shorten the distance a lot as well as allowing you to change tack whenever you want to. But I think MH to Lancelin is a bit extreme. I vaguely remember doing Cottesloe (or was it Freo) to Hillaries a long time ago, and that was pretty tiring by the end !

Forgot to ask SPOT1 wasnt part of the problem that the run was on weekends with no wind ? I know I was thinking of going but there was some reason I didn't - perhaps a lack of motivation -

Hardpole, I take it you haven't done ether. The ledge to lanno has been done in 25 minutes and the last couple of times I sailed back to ledge to get my car,no comparison. To sail from warnbro to scarbs in the same time you would have to average over 160km per/h, it's about 4 times further.
I think scarbs to lanno could be done in a long day but the more people you have the more chance of something going wrong, it only takes one slow person to hold up the group.
