The below was the result of a meeting discussing the direction of WWA for this upcoming season.

If you can help out in any way with the below, it would be most appreciated.

Any constructive feedback would be appreciated too and will be bought up at the next WWA meeting. Please post your ideas below.

Summary of Meeting - Directions for 2004/2005




Aim - Raise and Maintain Profile of Windsurfing in WA


Strategies -


1/ Constant and proactive engagement with the media


2/ Promote the sport with a fun, youthful image - Use of up and coming talent as focus


3/ Work on a limited number of high profile events for each season (e.g. - National, Regional or International Championships)


4/Event sponsorship sought with a view to enhancing value for participants, Association Sponsorship - to support the Association as a whole entity.




Aim - Raise and Maintain Membership


Strategies -


1/ Ensure membership is attractive and good value for money - rewarding members (T - Shirts, Stickers, Subsidies, etc) - focus on needs of “typical” windsurfers.


2/ Deliver a “Club” like atmosphere - priority of delivering fun, social sailing events.


3/Actively collect email addresses. - Personally and electronically


4/ Endeavor to ensure the windsurfing industry is happy with, and willing to support WWA initiatives.


5/ Provide social opportunities - inclusive of member's families


6/ Deliver improved communication with members - e - mails, forums, newsletters and WWA website.


(Possible inclusive activity ideas - BBQ's, Photo Days, Speed Camera events, casual clinics, trailer for learners/youth, family days)




Aim - Youth and Participant Development


Strategies -


1/ Encourage member's children to become active in the sport ( Access to gear and opportunities to sail)


2/ Highlight equipment developments that make the sport more fun and easier to learn. Media emphasis.


3/ Look to provide easier access to the sport by-


-Working with existing windsurfing schools.


-Working to provide opportunities for interested people to try the sport. (“Have a Go Day” Program possibly extended to “Kid's day's”)


-Looking to equip WWA with a facility to conduct such events more regularly and autonomously.




Future Directions -


Large “Casual” (possible coast run) event in Perth


Rational- Flexibility in timing for optimal conditions - Unrivalled competitor, spectator and media access - Bulk of WWA population in Perth




WWA Employee -


Rational - Employment of an assistant to work on general administration, membership, media releases and liasing with industry.




Home Base - Rational -distinct location for sailing, social occasions and storage.
