hello,
i am almost ready to buy a carbon art SL66 from 2010. I don't have any Tuttle fins. I would like to sail from 13kt (7.8sqm) to 23kt (6.6sqm) with SType northsails rigs. My main spot (Torkelstorp in Sweden) suffers lightly from weed/sea grass. Any good idea of fins for recreational freeride/slam rides? Sometimes I go to other spot without weeds, what type of fins would make it?
thank you in advance!
hope you enjoy summer in Australia, here it is freezing...

Hi, I've recently bought a Tribal Weedy. Very impressive. works in weed conditions and open waters as well. Using a 25cm on my 59 Manta 86lt. Loves the flat water and the rough stuff that I sail, 6.6 to 5 metre sails, 18 to 30 knots.

+1 for the Tribal weedy. I've used a 33 on my ca sl 66 with a 7.0m and found it really impressive. Although if you're using it with the 7.8 also, the 35 may be better suited than the 33. Check out the Ka website for details on the tribal.

Email the guys at CA. They're super helpful and know their designs best, and will give you the right advice.

My first CA was a bugger to point upwind until I got the right fin in it. It was bigger than anything I'd put in any other board I'd had up until then, but I've literally never used another fin since

Hello Tristan,
i did earlier on CA forum, James answer is : "A 40 cm regular fin would be best in this board but I don't have any experience with weed fins so maybe someone else can help here."
so all your advices welcomed....I also asked on W33 forum without much luck until now... :)
than you in advance guys! :)

Hello pepe47, nazsail, jas71,
it looks like it is speed fins only...right? Not really my primary focus now... I am looking for something that would support my joy bing progress....not sure the speed fin is the best for this. Am I wrong?
thank you anyway for the advice.
kind regards,
Plettil

Hi Plettil, I always sail weed fins for a mix of reasons. I really like the WEEDspeed from Black Project Fins on my slalom board, and the slalom weed and speed weed from Maui Ultra Fins on my freeride boards. They seem to be a bit specific, though - I have a couple of these fins that I can use other way around (BPF for free ride and MUF for slalom), and did not like them quite as much.

Most of the fins are speed weed fins, but I find them perfectly fine for cruising around. The upwind angle is not quite the same as with a good pointer fin, but I almost never see enough reason to switch to a pointer, even if there are no weeds.

If you consider the Black Project Fins, keep in mind that Black Project "sizes" are a bit different - their "size 42" has a "depth" of just 33.6 cm. For me, the 42 works fine with a 7.5 sail, but is a bit too small for an 8.5. Fins can be somewhat board specific, but I like the BPF WS on two different board brands (larger sizes on my Exocet Warp 71/117 l, the smaller ones on an RRD XFire 90).

In Europe, it might be a bit easier to get Maui Ultra Fins. The MUF weedies I use often are 22-30 cm. The 30 cm works well with 6.5 and 7.0 m sails on a 110 l board for free riding and old school freestyle.

Hi plettil, There should be 4 fins on that site, the speed, speed asy, the slalom and the weed fin. Unless you've come across an older site. But the one Jas71 gave shows all 4 and the ka site usually directs you to an updated site??
And they're readily available in Europe.

Hello pepe47,
Yes I see 4 of them, one is normal slalom, one is weed speed and the 2 others are speed only. My search...freeride/freeslam and weed fin.... Do you mean that the slalom is forgiving and give a feeling of freeride and easy gybing?
thank you for the help.

Have a look at the lessacher range of fins. The 38 weedy works very well in my Sl 66 and it should be easy for you to get. I run it with 8.5 down to a 6.6

Thank you Kato,
Which one do you have? Chamäleon, Quattro or duo?

Thx boardsurfr! I'll put this in my reflection.
