hi guys,

i would say vicki point is closer than wello.

it takes me 40mins to get from home to shearwater. i go via hope island. not sure if that is the fastest way?

it takes me 20 mins to get to wello from vicki point.

i actually live at redland bay which is 5 mins from vicki point.

if you normally go to wello via the beenleigh redland bay turn off then vicki point is way faster. but i haven't compared it by going via the gateway arterial and then along old cleveland road.

if you come via beenleigh redland bay road the trick is to turn right at the shell at benfer road. you will save 10 mins by avoiding all the local traffic in victoria point around the shopping centre.

so if you are coming from coomera i reckon maybe 30 minutes.

hope that is not too confusing.

you may be right vando.

to get to vicki point from coomera beenleigh redland bay road is the best path. i am keen to try the strip but can't resist suttons in 25 knots.

haircut.

if it stays a southerly and you are not keen to drive to redcliffe then vicki point is a way better spot to be then wello in my opinion, but i know some of you guys don't agree. if the wind is SW or W then wello is far better.

there will almost definately be lots of guys out at vicki point as the locals don't really appear until it hits 20 knots and then they come out of the woodwork.

when it is blowing there are quite a few people trying freestyle. but i haven't seen it cranking since feb this year.

p.s. did you get my email re windwanderers?

Well one good thing is going to come out of all this, wello point will be much better to sail after all the kites migrate to vic point

yeah,

not much chance of that mk, bay st at redland bay is better for the kiters. it has cross shore launch and loads more area for them to spread out. there are already a couple of guys kiting there.

everytime i have seen a kite out at vicki point they have struggled to actually get away from the shore, either hitting the mangroves at the ne end or getting badly lifted into the trees on the beach. it is a very dangerous spot for kiters to launch from with dead onshore wind that is very gusty close to the shore.

we all know wello is the home of kiting in brissy.

Still looking too far west for the train, pity as Wello/VP are such a long drive for me.

Whereabouts are you thinking of going Haircut?

For those going north a few of us are going out through the bar at Caloundra to the northern tip of bribie. Should be good conditions there. At 1:30 to 2:00 for the incoming tide. Will go to Suttons Sunday if there is a few going there. Interested to know why Suttons when Queens beach is 4 mins north??? Queens is a lot cleaner.

sorry vando but i wish i was.

i am home bound with duties,,,,, the only chance i may get is a late arvo dash to vp. but i can't confirm. some serious effort will be put in throughout the day to acquire leave. i am certain you will be motoring on the strip.

sunday is all good for me to go to sutton's. it is not often i get to use the wave gear so i gotta do it. may even get the 5.3 back out of storage.

Ben, if it is west, do you want to go straight to Wello?

Have any of you guys got old powerbox slalom or wave fins that are knackered which you would get rid of cheap? I want to cut down some to use for freestyle.

Want to give me a quick call or SMS in the morning to say where you are going?

Hey Gestalt The wind didnt get up to what was forecast there were some gust getting to 20knots.
But still a good day allround, im buggerd.
Great to see Haircut and Nebbian there.
Apparently they went to wello first but being SSW to S there wasnt any wind there so they came to vp.
The forcast is for it to freshen overnight and blow 20-30 tom.
I hope so this time.

Hey do you know a guy called jinx or something like that, he left his harness there so ive got it.Im looking at going down to vp again tom so i hope to catch him there.

yeah jinxy,

he is a local. you will only find him there when it is windy. i can't remember where he works but clive at allwood sails may be able to help you out. they know each other. if he doesn't turn up tomorrow then i can talk to clive.

if it is blowing jinxy will be there so you might run into him again.

how many people where out there. did you guys launch at the western side. jinxy normally hangs out up that end.

sutton's for me tom. hope it howls.

Hi Gestalt,

Probably eight or so people out there, wind was very up and down. It was 10 knots for an hour, then 15-20 knots for an hour, then back to 10 again.

Launched on the... erm... side with a carpark, lots of bollards in the ground, and a big long walk to the water. In the windwanderers picture of Victoria point if you were to walk forwards along the beach something like 200m you'd get to where we launched.

T'was good to check out a new spot though, and to christen my brand spankin' new North Ice wavesail

hi nebbian,

yeah, the windwanderers photo was taken from the other end of the park. seems everywhere was very up and down yesterday. i couldn't believe it when around 1pm everything died. so will you be returning?

seems we are in for the same today as far as wind goes.

cheers J

Hi Gestalt,

I spent $35 on petrol alone yesterday so can't really justify clogging up the environment like that just to go for an environmentally friendly sail... Was kicking myself after an hour on the water and not having had one planing run, just as well the wind picked up or I would have been mad!

Nah, going out in the tweed, only a 15 minute drive instead of 1.5 hours. And that's one way.

VP is nice though, such a long long reach, at the end of each run my back was starting to get sore from being on the same tack for so long! Also minimal traffic. I was out there enjoying the wind and smelt a 2-stroke, thought what the f is that, realised a boat was just about to cross my wake. Funny that you can smell a boat before you see it.

hi nebbian,

thats what i like about lake cootharaba as well. huge long runs...

what a crap day today was. 8-12 knots..........no waves, a total waste.

left all the big gear at home. that's what i get for believing the bureau.

yep, ripped off.!

how can a 20-30 knot forecast possibly end up at 8 knots.

should have gone to the goldie, it's closer as well.

can't wait to buy a mast and boom for the 11m.
