No Gestalt you should have just drove 5 min down the road lol.
We had a ball at vp better then yesterday.
ended up taking the 6.0 out on the 120 then changed to warpy for some runs. it was a bit gusty for the warp but did some decent speeds. The wind didnt get much more than 20 knots though.
Big turnout today nice to see.

Haircut and I went out on the tweed river, wind was extremely gusty, 8 to 15 mostly with the odd gust of a bit more.

Good to hear that SOMEone had a decent sail...

Hey Vando, did Jinxy get his harness back?

Going to shearwater early today, hope to see some forum-people out there!

Is DI point a sea level station or is it elevated like Cape Moreton?
Anyway a 50kt westerly doesn't sound like fun to me, except for watching.

this from a man that can't handle a sail bigger than 7.5m, can't gybe, can't jump and is scared of swells over than ankle high.

lets go for a sail off the southern tip of bribie. After we finished you can have my new skirt.

yes, i am planning a childcare facility for the windwanderers. you can enrol, but no thumb sucking allowed.[}:)]

no, no 8.5 vando is the 7.5 wuss... and I did own a 9m which is more than I can say for him- he didnt even like the sight of it in front of him so he decided to break it for me at the slalom states... oh I forgot Mike you still owe me $25 for that or a set of harness lines will do

bribie no worries mate, but u gotta promise me you will sail for more than 10 minutes

no thumb sucking... my mommy wont be happy it's the only thing that shuts me up

well i promise to try and sail for more than 10 minutes.

but it takes a lot of effort to uphaul. that normally wears me out.

i heard a rumour, vando said if you can catch him he will pay you back.

seriously, i would be keen for a sail off bribie. we should launch at pebble beach.

yeah that's it. we can have a game of lawn bowls if there is no wind.

awesome spot. pebble beach is a right turn just before the bridge. so it is still on the mainland. has flat water.

you basically sail from there over into the passage. big sells in the passage when it is pumping. can be a bit dangerous to be honest. especially if you break gear.

but you will need to drive for more than 5 minutes to get there. pete and i used to sail there all the time. it works best in a SE with an outgoing tide.

Hey Gestalt, Mk7

Biggest sail I have ever owned is a 7.0.

Though I did sail a 10.0 on 7' 2" board (53 cm wide) (once) back in the mid 80's !! - awesome and unforgettable experience never to be repeated !!! - Talk about catapaults!!!

Well I can say they are much nicer to use now.

Used this old gaastra thing a few times, slalom sail weighed a ton literally had 2 or 3 cams though they were sort of on the outside. It was only 6,5m and my mate and I both standing on the same board couldnt uphaul it.

80's you have been sailing for ever.

Hey, MK7,

the 10M was before cams had ever been used (at least as far as my memory has it) (RAF based sail) - mega long boom and the mast was close to 6.0 (from memory it was a 5.0, with a special extension). The board was an experimental ex Trigger Bros in Melb.

Sail was made by a local sail maker in Melb - kevlar/mylar combo.

Agreed that the larger sails today have a much better cut and are clearly easier to use - also now sailed on wider boards with bigger volumes.!!!

hi drjukka,

it amazes me how you manage to get going on such small gear.

my 8.5 gets used 90% of my time on the water. once i can afford a 550 mast and 310 boom i'll get the 10.9 going. your welcome to take either sails for a spin. i noticed a couple of guys getting bigger sails at wello recently. the guys at caloundra aren't shy about rigging 9m plus either.

agree mk the new big sails handle great. not like the old ones. the old ones had heaps of draft and about a 5 knot wind range.

are you guys heading out this weekend?

Hey Gestalt,

For someone who gets going in light stuff - Try Vando. I'm usually one of the laat to get on the plane!!

If it blowing a steady 13 knots then I can get 7.0 with a 1.05 litre board going - I weigh in at around 86-88 kg. Less wind than this and I really struggle.

I would much rather sail with smaller sails and boards if I can.

on the topic of larger sails, I typically use my 8.1mtr in 15 to 20/22 kts max. I am around 115kg, but soon as it drops below that 15 knts I cant get on the plane with a 8mtr sail. My next step up is a 10.5, although getting a 9mtr soon. Its either that or loose weight!

Hmmm... That's interesting. I would typically use a 5.3 in 22kts and carry it down to 15. I'm barely 70 kg. That's 45 kg difference. That works out to 0.5 sq m per 8 kg. I've heard before that it should be roughly 0.5 sq m per 10 kg. That's pretty close.

It depends on what you're doing and where you are sailing, speedsailing types are more inclined to hold down 6.0m sails when everyone else is on 4.0's.
