Hey guys,

Just woundring what is your windsurfing gear mover? Is it Van, Ute Tralleir or just a Sedan?
If you had some pics of your set up it would be much appreciated if you could post it on the gallery.

Cheers Pittsy

I have an eco friendly 5.7L V8 Commodore wagon. With one of the split fold seats down it holds 6 sails, 2 booms, 5 masts, 3 boards and accesories. Thanks to the new shorter board designs and getting your packing right, this still allows you to have a smaller passenger in the front seat and or one in the back. When I gi away the boards go on the roof to make space for the dog and luggage.

If you want to avoid the van route the commodore or ford wagon is a good option. The ford is a few inches longer as well.

Duel cab ute. Can carry 5 people, 4 boards and as many sails and gear as you like. Only downside to this is not being able to lock up gear. A single cab ute would fit even more and mabey with a canopy would be ideal. But then you may aswell get a station wagon.

Personally i think the best way to go if you got plenty of gear and do it often enough is this (only problem is if you don't like towing):

- www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=2650

You can also then take as many people around in your car as you like and all your gear is locked up.

Commo VL wagon, with front passenger seat down I can fit 3 boards and about 6 sails inside easy. I'm usually only carrying my wave board so the front passenger seat stays up and the board goes between the two front seats (only just pokes through). Like that someone can fit in the passenger seat easy. It's like a ute with a roof :D

Here's my trailer:
www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=3552
This is my second generation windsurfing trailer, designed as a complete box that can lift in and out of my box trailer for when I need to cart rubbish etc. Previous version made from plywood - too heavy, not stiff enough and rattled itself apart . Current version (in photo) is welded tubular frame, COLORGRAIN cladding, more streamlined and about 1/3rd the weight. It carries three boards, six sails, six masts and 4 booms.

But I sold it.

Bought a BA Falcon wagon, good car, fit 1 surfboard, 1 245cm board, 4 sails, 2 masts, 1 boom, and can still have the 2 seater up in the rear, so fit 4 people, have 2 daughters plus wife in tow evert now and again.

For bigger road trips, all my kit goes on the roof in a bag.

I'm lucky, own a work van (Hi-ace long wheel base), and a ford ute (rtv) fitted with polished alum. front and back (timber) roll bars....(for work obviously). Great for transporting timber, (as well as boards and 12 & 15ft surf fishing rods!!!)

I had a Mitsubishi van. It was a bit thirsty but I could fit everything I needed in it. Now I have Mitsubishi wagon but I bought it in a hurry and didn't realize that it is less than clever with its seat design. The front seat doesn't fold far enough forward and the back seat is not split. The upshot is I still need roof racks if I want to carry more than 1 board and when loaded I can't carry a passenger. Stupid design really annoys me so I cant see myself sticking with it.

Notwal, when I was buying wagon I looked at Commodore & Magna wagons... generally with the Mitsubishi's you get more for you're money but the lack of split fold rear seat meant the commodore got the nod.

And damn you Holden for not producing normal wagons anymore, what are we windsurfers to do (if I wanted a pseudo 4wd i'd get a 4wd).

Great ute. Fits 5 people, 4 boards, 4 masts, 4 sails + wetties, harnesses, universal joints and fins for 3 people. May fit more but never tried. Also got 4 bikes on the bike rack.

Only hassel is not being able to lock up. But we never needed to anyway.

They are quite willing to hang schidt on it whilst I'm taking them to a remote break, how aussie is that?

fellas,
the best of the lot is the mighty falcon xf panel van. use a ****load of fuel but you can fit so much stuff in'em its not funny. plus they are a heap safer than "normal" vans eg econovan, cause they are built like a brick sh!thouse. my mates is still going strong, over 500,000k's on the original engine. they are so good that mine just got flogged, so now i have had to downgrade to a commodore vt wagon. fits all the windsurfin stuff in it but you have to look after it a lot more (eg no salty water dripping everywhere) which is something you don't need to worry about with the ford panno's. plus they are cheap as chips.

Toyota Troopy is my choice, It fits two wave boards inside on the the roof and with the back seats ripped out there is plenty of room for all your quiver including a engal for a cold beer, plus being 4wd it gets you to those remote places away from the crowds

subaru forester. usually throw the board on the roof and the rest in the back. only usually troop around on my lonesome, or with my brother, so i fold the seats down so that it all packs down nice.

My usual transport is a VY ss ute, black, low and loud, marvellous! I can lock all the gear in the back and it stays cool and protected. For short trips when I only need 1 board, I'll use this...

Commodore VT wagon. Get more stuff in one of these than in most of those fancy 4wd that mums drive to school and back.
When going up or down coast both back seats flat, head rest out of passenger seat and moved all the way forward. Seat lowered down I can get 3 boards, 7 sails, 4 masts, 3 booms and other crap all in. Lockable. Put the seat belt around the lot at front so no movement.
Mate has a new Merc Vito and he gets everything in it plus a bed. even fits his dinghy when on boating duty. Goes like the clappers too with turbo diesel.

rusty Ford Econovan.
Chicks start dancing in the street every time I drive by. They're very jealous that my boards get to lay in the back instead of them.

Has a special feature that when you turn it off it doesnt turn off.
Also has a duel use as a skip, is full of crap, and has a special smell.
