Hi all Australians,

I am on top, from Canada, and I am going to make a visit under in two weeks. I am actually at an exact 12hrs time difference with Perth. I could probably dig a hole and end up in Perth (if I had time of course).

During my first week or two, I would like to stay 'somewhere', for four persons, where I can windsurf in front of the houses/hotel/condo/camping/etc. Is there a place along the coast where this is available. I would only have a vehicule to get to the place but no vehicule afterward.

The other option, would be to stay at a very cheap place in a small cottage for example and rent a cheap car to travel a little.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. The place to stay can be South to Maragaret River or up North.

HERE ARE SOME PRECISION. I LOVE WAVE SAILING AND BUMP AND JUMP. BUT MY WIFE WOULD PREFER FLAT OR BUMP AND JUMP. I DON'T WANT PURE FLAT. MY PREFERENCE AT THIS POINT IS TO PICK A COTTAGE OR A SMALL ROOM AND RENT A SMALL CAR OR VAN. IDEALLY I WOULD FIND A PLACE ALONG A BEACH THAT FOR THE FIRST WEEK AT LEAST I DON'T HAVE TO USE A CAR AND WINDSURF IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE. AFTER A GOOD REST I WOULD HAVE ENEERGY TO TRAVEL ALONG THE COAST. YOU GUYS SEEMS TO SAY THAT THIS IS EASY TO FIND BUT FROM THE NET I CAN'T TELL IF LOCATION ARE GREAT FOR WINDSURFING.

Thanks to all the crocodile Dundees and dundettes,

Roch.

THNAK YOU ALL FOR YOUR ANSWERS!!!!

Try (windsurfing chalets) or (The wave house in Lancelin)
A great site for accomadation is windsurfwa.com/index.html
Remember less wind north and more wind south late in the season.
Enjoy

What sort of windsurfing are you interested in?

Avalon Beach Mandurah, has a variety of winds, occassionally down the line wavesailing, an estuary is 1 km away with a variety of flat water sailing.

Plenty of accommodation, need more info?

I would certainly appreciate some info. My wife is already in Perth and we would like to make a decision by this weekend.

Thanks again,

Roch.

definetely the best option , I don't know what you are into but if it is wave sailing then you be better to get a car and then drive north( lancelin-geraldton) or south( margareth river -esperance)..South is probably good this time of the year.
As for accomodation there are plenty of them ( chalets-..etc....) just check with the tourism bureau of the place you want to go.

If you are into flat water ...then well there is flat water everywhere so just have to find a cottage somewhere..but still reckon you need a car....

with no car maybe safety bay in Rockingam (flat water)...or lancelin

enjoy!

Rock & Roll

Cervantes is about 2.5 hours North of Perth - mainly flat water, bump & jump - some waves offshore. They get Thermal winds between the desert & the sea, which are generally a little stronger & more consistent than Perth.

Pinnacles Beach Backpackers ([email protected]) is about 200 metres from the beach, but I wouldn't personally like to drag all my gear that far every day. You can have traditional backpackers, or your own room and ensuite for very reasonable prices. The facilities are modern & clean. Suggest you hire or consider buying an old car - public transport around W.A. is pretty poor and you will enjoy the freedom if you intend chasing the wind around.

Hope you catch some good wind. Bring your sunscreen.

Greenroom First,

Yes from Mandurah, "Heaven Beach" or should I say Avalon Beach.

If you went direct east from Avalon Beach, you would find the best spot, on Seabreeze, WSW, and anything with East in it. 200 metres nth of Cut groin.

Kiters love it and are making it a home, My wife windsurfs there 3/4 times a week. Can be dead flat at times when evrything is working right.

You'll need to be more specific about what info you want, but I would also concur, that Lancellin is excellent.

Dear Mr Roll,

Based on what you have said,

1. Lancellin (1 hr 20 mins from Perth) Both Flat and Waves in same area, can get accomm right next to best spot! Bit isolated, not much to do, but hard to beat for all types of windsurfing.

The rest is dependent on what you like.

2. For me Mandurah, (50 mins from Perth)I wave sail, Wife's into flat and Bump and Jump, though not quite as convenient as Lancellin, but closer to Perth, more beautiful, more to see and do.

3. Point Moore, Geralton, (5/6 hrs from Perth)(Both flat and waves) or Sunset Beach, Caravan Park,(Waves and Bump n Jump) Geralton, though this can get a bit heavy when very windy, wife may not like.
More to do in Geralton than Lancellin, big wsurf community, but bit isolated.

4. Esperance, ( 9 hrs from Perth) again great waves and a variety of flat but not all conveniently located like Lancellin. Very Spectacular Coast line, quite stunning, big enough town to do things, but very isolated.

If u dont go to lancelin then u deserve a kick in the nuts. Lano as we affectionaly call it goes off with 1.5m of swell, but the flatwater inside the reef would suit ur wife perfectly. Somone would know the number for the real estate agent, but there are some wiked little houses up there. At lancelin you may not need to get a car at all.

forget avalon ..... the ppl who sail there talk it up way too much and are still stuck in the 80's (just for u Pinna). It also need like 3m of swell to get waist high waves....forget it.

margret river wouldnt cater for u and ur wife sailing at the same time so piss it off.

Just my take of the spots i have sailed and spent time at.

Port Headland/Karratha is the place to be now - plenty of wind there in the next couple of days.

For you Bertie,

The more people that knock Avalon the better,
I must be insane for even hinting that it's a good place to wavesail, It's too small, not enough wind, and gets too crowded, too easily.

I recommend all Perth wavesailors, to windsurf at Lancellin, in particular the best wave any where near Perth is South Passage, can't be beaten.

Avalon is Crap
