Hey, I was wondering about the best spots in perth to go wavesailing. Im 15 and have been sailing on the river most of the time, and wavesailing in rotto at narrowneck when my family goes there, which is bout 5 times a year. But now my brother has his liscence and we can both go to the ocean, so which spot is the bestAny help would be greatly appreciated.

During winter dutch inn is pretty good as long as the wind isn't too westerley. It can be pretty tough to sail there when the swell gets really big during huge fronts. Crazy waves is also heaps of fun to sail. It's about 10 minutes south of fremantle. It's a sand bar that goes over a k outwards and waves break on it giving you heaps of jumps but not really any decent waveriding. I learnt to wavesail in summer and i think it would be kinda difficult in winter with the gusty winds and bigger swells but hopefully i'll see ya out there! I'm 17 and there's a few other young people wavesailing as well.

Agreed Dave,

Nothing beats Dutchies in winter, and it will probably be some of the best wavesailing you'll ever get in perth!!! Also, you can get wavesailing on port tack, a rare treat in WA. However, if your worried about getting drilled (last winter dutchies snapped my mast) try crazy waves; flater water, smaller shorebreak, and you can stand in many places.

Good luck.

PS: Dave look foward to seeing your tweaked one handed tabletops this saturday on starboard tack!

hey,

I learnt to wave sail at dutch inns in summer, and it is relatively easy, with only small surf. The only real worry is scraping your fin. However, in winter it can get pretty big, and is perhaps not the best place to learn. I dont know what pinarro pt is like, but crazy waves is good. It can also get wild though in the storms, but the waves never get big, and there is no reef. i would recomend it over dutchies.

hope this helps.

crazy waves is a good place to start in the waves because it doesnt get too big and you can still get a few jumps. and if you do get your self into trouble its dead onshore and youll just get blown back to the beach.

agree....Crazy wave is definitely better to start mucking around in the waves.

Dutchin could be awesome when it is NW and not too West ..but on NW and big swell watch out not to end up in that nasty little corner on the left of the groin, it's all sandy and nice in summer but all very nasty rocky( and no wind) in winter. If the wind drop, it's better to drag further down wind near leighton than beaching on that corner. Even if you see a bit of something that looks like a tiny sandy corner, don't go

I agree with Hoop and what he says Go crazies
Avoid the river for frontal sailing it's way to gusty, for some reason the air moving over the land seems to make it gusty. It,s a lot more consistant straight off the ocean.

Port Beach is heaps better then Dutchin when the the wind and swells right! Ton's more power and can be more side shore!!
Sail out from the surf club. Just make sure its not to westerly as your never get out.
Crazy waves is fun when its 25kts+ good for jumpin and insane speed runs through the flat water when your hanging on to a 4.2 sail.Park at the northern carpark on a weekday as theres more people around so your less likely to get you car broke into, watch the shore break its best to swim your gear out 10m first and then waterstart it could save you a broken mast and pride and tack out past the groin and sail the 1/2 km up to the waves.
