Ok now having worked in a windsurfing shop in the early 80's I remember some of those old boards. Marlin, Wayler, Crit and Vinta, these are all pre 1990 brands that went bust but where you find any real info on them is anybody's guess. there's nothing on the web about them except a deletes posting for somebody in Seattle giving one away. My advice - what you need.

A modern Rig.
Clamp on boom.
A mast with some carbon content
A modern sail that is RAF with a loose leach design that allows the top to flex off and exhaust the gusts, that will make it easier to hang onto and to learn to use a harness.. Start by putting this on your old board and learn techniques fast because the rig will be more solid and stable. Once your rig handling is good then buy a freeride board, like a starboard carve, or other brand. Brand is not as important as it's early planing and gybing ability for learning.

just my two cents worth. Oh and Marty - chill out mate we are all jokers down under. Did you see the "Borat" movie? Did it make you laugh or were you horrified?

I do not have a harness, I just hang on for dear life and keep my center of gravity as low as possible. I only use one foot strap. The foot strap placement on the board is absolutely horrendous, the the front and the back straps are literally a centimeter apart.

Agree with other posters, make a harness your top priority, not only does it take the strain off your arms you can sail much more efficiently, that 20kn should jump to 25kn.

And I remember some of those old big boards had multiple footstraps, if they are that close together, you may just have 2 sets of front straps!!!
Have a good look towards the back of the board for more screw holes, if you find them shift one set of straps back there.
