Thanks Again Gestalt and the sponsors (OzWindsurf and Wndsurfingsales) Once again the wind didn't come though to expectation.
Guys come from up and down the coast converged on wello . The flat water was just waiting for us but not enough wind.
Still no great speeds but still had a ball,
I haven't seen that many sails on the water for years.
great to see. A few guys have posted some speeds on gps-speedsufing from yesterday see www.gps-speedsurfing.com/default.aspx?mnu=forum&forum=2&val=1978
Gestalt did you try your new GPS on yesterday.

Sorry I missed the after BBQ had to got out last night.
till next time Vando

cheers vando.

nope, didn't try the gps. once there was enough wind for the flying fish i left the gps in the car. i'm not going to break any records on the wave kit. also no-one asked for the gps either so it didn't get wet.

it certainly was flat on the eastern side. if the forecast had of come true i think you guys would have posted some very high speeds. saturday is looking good with an easterly forecast.

the after bbq kicked on. we were there for about an hour after the sun went down. some of the guys went to a german resturaunt in wellington point as well.

I am thinking for the next meet we should eat burgers.

i uploaded a couple of photos of the day. sums things up really well.

Hi Elizabeth....

here is another just for you...
www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=1942

the kiters were cool. i talked to a couple on the beach.
the best bit of mateship i saw was a windsurfer rescueing a kiter.
we were watching the kiter dude with binoculars just in case. not sure what happened. ended up all good in the end from what i saw.

there is plenty of room for all at wello.

pad, junior, yourself and reece were missed. did you have fun?

It was a most excellent day. Enough wind for a 6 (or 7.5 for macho speed freaks). I sail at Wello regularly but it was a novelty for me to sail on the shallow side in a westerly - good fun. Thanks for organising it Gestalt. It was hart warming to see all those sails on the water. I was properly tired and stupid after 3 hours. For a change I had the sense to stop before I overdid it.

Gestalt, re WW caps, if I may make a suggestion, a cap you can take sailing would be the dad's nads. To my eye baseball caps are a bit naff. Phil McGain was testing sailing hats for Gaastra and he recommends a hat with a full brim with a 40^ down turn (making it a conical brim)- keeps the sun off and doesn't distort too much in the wind. I guess you are not into hat design but rather just picking something from a manufacturers stock, but if you have the option or a choice I'd go for a hat like that.
Also I think the WW logo design should be revisited before any embroidery on caps. I don't have any suggestions as to the design just that I think it needs some work. Maybe you could ask for contributions from the members - a design competition perhaps.

Hey Justin-

Ahh haha thanks for the pic – Good to see windys and kiters get along so well I heard about the kiter rescued by a windsurfer in the kiting forum – I practically said the same thing about mateship as you did lol

Ah we did. Windless, but it’s so gorgeous at the Goldy nonetheless. I’m looking forward to getting to the next one.

If we get the right direction hopefully, bring on the Reddy Queens Beach to Brighton downwinder... lol

Would it be in late July/ August, or once we have the more consistant winds in November, December ?

hi notwal,

you may well get your wish with regards the hats. the plan was for bucket hats. the wheels are already in motion. the guys at WindWarrior are looking at supplying a hat to each member. they are working on the designs currently.

The logo was designed by one of the members. i have to say i like the logo. simple yet to the point. it may be to late to change it at this stage.

I think after the turn out on sunday we may have to take the train off the list. not enough space..... will go to shearwater instead for any future flat water gold coast meets.

hi Elizabeth.

I know a few people are keen for queens to brighton, it is not ideal for us windsurfers. problems with water depths... i think bribie island is better.
it may have to be sep/oct. i am looking at some form of non-competitive gps thing in nov.

July will be caloundra

August most likely redcliffe.

Sep maybe shearwater (northerlies)

Oct downwinder

Nov Wello gps

Dec Lake Catharabah

Jan goldy waves...

Feb suttons beach

March sunny coast waves...

April Bundaberg..

and so on...

well that is the very changable and not fully planned concept. everything may change. i haven't put to much though into the list.

Hi Jimmy the day Started out great 20-25 knots I had a 6.0 some people had 5.0. The wind didn't last long and got real gusty 12-20 knots, still enough in the gust for the 6.0 could of gone up a sail but couldn't be bothered most people ended up sailing with 6.0-7.0
Still a nice days sailing.
Gear swap didnt really happen not many people buy gear this time of year unless they have broken something.
Looks pretty cold there in Tassie.

Hey Vando,

Yeah its 11am and its just reached 3.6 degrees and the fog is so thick that i can just see across the road, suppose thats what you get for living in a valley, Hobart is a bit warmer it has reached 11 degrees.

Hasnt been much wind down here for 2 months, at least when im able to sail. should be getting the big westerlies coming through soon

cheers

Jimmy
