Hey Vando,

I remember the Bay Islands - Great Event.

Given that Goodtime seem to have abrogated their right to sponsor this event perhaps another sponsor could be found to resurrect this great event (and hold it a decent time of year (Oct or Nov) when the wind is good.

And Vando - I reckon if Padi gave you a kite to anchor behind you, you would find some way of making it work for you and a 10 minute handicap would not be enough.!!! - especially with your warp-speed firing.!!

Hey Gestalt - this used to be a great event and if we can resurrect it it would be great, not as a competition but as event that says " I can do this - I have sailed around the Islands.

hi guys, the bay islands was certainly popular....

i would say at this point it will be bribie north to south in a NE. will still produce very fast times because the swell is small and it is a broadreach the whole way.

it is also safer than heading out into the bay because we would be tracking along the beach the whole way. i feel this would help attract the less confident... we may be able to have the finish party at the woorim surf club. will need to talk to them...

my idea is to have a boat and a 4wd follow everyone down the coast. probably a 1-2 hr run. i will do a test run before hand. there would also be the need for all sailors to take a mobile phone with them just in case.

i have looked into mini bus hire.. 12 people for 1 day costs about $100. we could all meet at Woorim, then drive the bus/busses to caloundra. then sail back to Woorim... then everyone can disperse form there.

other option is that everyone works out there own transport. we could use the club to count spare seats and drivers to assist....

edit.... as the club is non competitive we don't need to dissadvantage the likes of vando. maybe even just skip the bbq at the end and go to the pub for a refreshing ale.

Another option that doesn't involve transporting boards (and sails, and masts, and booms) in the minibus:

Everyone drives to the start and rigs up. Someone watches all the gear while everyone drives to the finish. Minibus carries everyone back to the start. Everyone sails to their car at the finish line.

I'd pay, what, $10 for a ride back to the start line? If 10 people do it then that's paid for the minibus. If 20 people turn up, then WindWanders would have the funding to buy steak for the barbecue

nice one nebbian, that means we can hire taragos....which are cheaper... only $60-70. looked into the minibus because the tarago doesn't normally come with toe balls.

edit, i will lookinto another option as well, bribie to caloundra and back wtice is actually a long way by car, not so far by water...
i will see if a 4wd truck can be hired to take us straight up the beach and then follow us back down...

$150 for an eleven person 4wd troop carrier...

there is plenty of time for discussion and organising... a couple of months off so time to think it through...

Hello everybody!

Love the long distance, love to join. Together with my kite surfer friend we did Redland Bay to Wello and had 3 hours of great fun. We didn't have back up but if a few people get involved a couple of mobiles and a small boat should be easy (and cheap)to organize. That side of the bay is more protected, but the wind is still good and it is perfect in a SE wind.

We did a Dunwich to Cleveland a while ago, but the sea was getting a bit rough, we broke a bit of gear and had to get a ride home. (Not so funny)

Let me know when you want to go!

Regards, Wim

Hey Elizabeth,

It was indeed with Adrian I did the trip. I had to babysit Adrian for Kelly otherwise he couldn't go. Should do it again. Adrian actually made it from Dunwich to Cleveland whereas we wrecked a bom.

Hey Justin,

Sorry ladies first mate. Since there was no wind we just went to Wello for the last 2 days. I think we'll be at shearwater tomorrow morning. C U!

Ayway, still keen on the long distance. If I can be of any help let me know.

Hello everybody,

Correction: We didn't wreck a bom, we wrecked a boom.

Hope to see you all on the bay soon.

I'm all for downwinds and long distance kiting. The Bay has some magic spots in the lee of Coochie, Goat and Sand Island. At low tide there are some great shallow lagoons of flat water between cleveland and wello.

I have some saftey concerns with down winds and long distance - I got separated from my board on Dunwich to Cleveland - pretty difficult with 1m+ wind swell to find and recover the board. I now use a leash, PFD and helmet on downwinds.

An epic downwind/distance would be from Vicky Pnt round Peel Island to Wello pnt in a S.E. Would have to organise a safety boat for this though.

Hi folks, regarding the meeting at the Train ....I am in the Broadwater Caravan Park,(also work there)great spot to stay and launch from for anyone wanting to spend the weekend at the train.
here is my 20 cents worth on gear swaps etc, if people want to buy/sell/swap gear at any meeting, why not,no harm done to anyone, and if others don't want to they don't need to get involved. All helps to create interaction, which is how I interpret, Gestalt's original idea.Bickering is for children , surely. cheers folks

hi guys and gals,

seems that we have hit upon the next great debate topic.

to gearswap or not to gearswap.

As has been the goal from the inception of the club. It is my intention that the club represents its members wants where ever possible and to the full extent possibile. I have also been inviting industry feedback with regards this same topic to ensure that all involved get a say. and the bottom line that everyone agrees on is that getting people involved in windsurfing is a good thing.

what all that means is.

gearswap is go, go, go on the goldcoast

there has been an overwhelming response from members saying that they really like to have gearswaps. with that said, bring it on.
