No need to direct things towards me Padi, i was defending your actions if anything. You brought WQ to us and I feel it is a pity you have parted ways with them. If you put lots of time and effort towards WQ then really you are entitled to some compensation and promoting a website matters little... it is something the shops have had 20 something years to do (organising gear swaps and bringing things to the people that is).

Best of luck to you and your capitalist ways pat , I guess many in the business feel they have chosen this path as a lifestyle thus the not for money thing.

Jump over me and I will hunt you down like a pirate and sink ya , besides-
a) you have to catch me
b) jumping over me when i fall off/standing in the water aint counted.

I never expect to get anything on return, it wasnt the reason why I lent them a hand. All my contribution for WQ was for the love of the sport. I have given them my time, shown them what could be done, now it's up to them to continue. They may choose a totally different path, but it's their choice and their beliefs. I am still great friends with all the committee members, my departure was not because of the committee. I still support WQ 100%, just as I taken up coaching on Sundays again this year, I have not been able to attend any of their events, which is always held on Sundays. I have always spoken highly of WQ, my website has links to their site, and vice versa.

Just a pity people are not able to see a little further, open their arms a little more. The sport will be a lot more friendler and fun. There's absolutely no need to bitch against anyone, shops doesnt need to talk down/against other shops. I am sure you have seen & heard too much of it too. I have only windsurfed for like what 5 years and it is sad to have seen so much on the dark side already lol. I enjoy and I am sure I will continue to enjoy for years to come, wind & kite every weekend with my mates where the word 'bitching' doesnt exist.

Hahaha, I'll allow u to jump over me too. Heard ur practising your tabletops the other day? It's all for fun mate. Till we sail again!

P.S. I got a new kite last week, wanna try MK7? Went down Narrowneck and it was about 7-8kts, no problem flying it, then wind dropped to like 4-5kts. Kite just stayed in the air - unreal!

No, quite the contrary. You know I say things as they are. I meant it as I said it. aka . He does and might have more knowledge, and life expereince behind him, but that means nothing if you can't use it adequately and to the benefit of others and yourself. It's how you use this knowledge that is important. etc

I like to buy whatever is the best 'value for money', so I take into account COST, PARTS/BACKUP and WARRANTY!!I usually buy from shops because they can offer the last 2 , whereas buying second-hand (eg gearswaps) is not always the most "cost effective" method i have found.Paddi... do you sell goods with a warrenty and parts backup (even on second hand) as the main shop I purchase from does? If you can offer the same level of service, and your prices are better, than I will happily buy from you!!! I AM A TIGHTASS WITH MY CASH! [}:)]Elizabeth, if ever we are in the same fight... I hope you are on my side--- I certainly dont ever want to have someone as quick-tempered as you on the other team.

Come on guys lets compromise, 3 swap meets a year is heaps.
Surly you don’t change gear that often.
The whole idea of swap meet was to sell your old gear not too use it as a retail outlet.
You also have too look at the shop prospective.
Most of them are open 7 days a week, they pay rent as well as tax.
They can not afford to close up shop and go down to a swap meet once a month particularly on Saturdays prob there busiest day.
We should be supporting all shops and you will find they will support us.

maybe you old guys dont need gear more than 2-3 times a year.... i think youd be surprised how much gear breaks, gets outdated, gets to small, gets to big, gets uncool, or gets out styled when your a kid or teenager...

and i dont work at maccas... at the moment im giving kite lessons... im having a 99% success rate 2

Padi, maybe I,m a lucky fella as I have bought gear from one particular Bris shop and have had 2nd hand gear replaced when it turned out to be not in the condition the shopowner thought it was. But then, you purchase gear from your owm company dont you, so dont need a shop to buy from... or so I thought from reading your postings!

As for the downwinders. Mooloolaba to Caloundra is a good one in a NE. I have done this several times (dont know how far 10-15km?), but not for a long time. I also helped organise and participate in a WQ race ages ago when we sailed from the tip of Bribie Island up to the shiping markers in front of Caloundra and back again. Does anyone remember this? (So not technically a downwinder) but was a great long distance race. This race was initially supposted to be to Moreton Island and back but it never happend, due to the club at the time being negative to long distance events

As for the gear swap. I lived in the UK for 2 years and bought all my gear from various swap meets that i attended, they are absolutely unreal.(like about 30 times bigger than any I have seen in Qld) I was amazed that they run once a month all year round. However, as the windsurfing population is so much smaller in Aus I dont feel there is a need for them here so frequently.

yes ka72... remember the race... peter nitschke came 1st in the bribie to shipping marker race. he is keen to do the downwinder as well. will most likely be helping me with organising it....
i did the marathon from mooloolabah and around old woman island and had a blast...

yes wq are not keen...

Hey Gestalt,

Keep up the good work.

A long distance event or a long distance 'down winder' - I'm all for that. Something that could rival the Fawkner Beacon event in Melbourne would be good. Would need some kind of support or rescue crew to give competitors some confidence.

I would suggest a 'handicap' event with less confident sailors launching first and the 'seasoned pros' last off the line with a boat to follow. (Vando goes last + 10 minutes!!!) Resuce boat could then stern chase and pick up any problems sailors.

Gearswaps - sensitive topic this one!! Probably once or twice a year is sufficent in my opinion. We need to protect the interests of many parties while allowing folks to trade gear - these can always be informal at any time. I've said plenty about this in previous topics.

It's worth talking to Vando and maybe Sean O'Brien (OS at the momennt) who I think may have tried a couple of solo long distance runs in an attempt to break the 1 Hour GPS record (Wello to Moreton and Wello to Redcliffe if I'm not mistaken). The amount of work on the back leg is significant; I know from personal experience that the run from Manly to Green (5-6 km) or Manly to Wello ~5 km really starts to test the hamstring and calf muscles of the back leg - especially if you are pushing for speed.

Another event worth considering would be from Manly around Green Island and back to Manly (in a SE). I have done this a few times and it is a mix of upwind work with a some good downwind runs and is a lot longer than you first think because you need to go out way past Green to get back in again. (we have done this in packs of 2-3 sailors in the past - informally and just for fun)

Hope to be able to make it down to the GC for the next event.

Windblaster we use too have an event called the goodtime bay marathon it stated at manly and went around the islands and back.

you could make it a bit harder for me, Maybe attaching an Achor might help everyone's chances LOL.
Anyway Mk7 would be a serious contender for a downwinder no jibes

afer about 5km pushing hard you bet.
