These are more bad ideas than gimmicks

F2 in their wisdon- those PIPES
F2, FANATIC and others that think deep cutouts are a good idea(unstick you mongrel)
SORRY but again F2, FANATIC, AHD and others who reckon that putting little decals on the board right where you place your feet are a good idea - EXTREMELY SLIPPERY

the list could go on and on upon reflection

Nice! $159 US for some PVC pipe. I'm sold!

I like the line "finally training wheels for windsurfers". This idea, in a superior form, came out about 1983. One thing that really bugs me* is "inventors" who assume that they are far more brilliant than all who have come before, when in fact they are just recreating a flopped idea they were too lazy to research.

* as well as the "anyone who sails a board I don't choose to sail is a dag" crowd

the mermaid cracks me up.

reminded me of a mate that bought a setup that consisted of 2 windsurfers with a trapeze to turn it into a catamaran.

ggf, what a revelation!

rotho masts, prebent model looked like a banana, two strands of carbon each side.

turn it forward when rigging for stiff lightwind setting,
turn it backwards for soft highwind back slamming fun!
shame it was as soft as a recreational fishing rod!

I remember seeing Kelby Anno in Hawaii and she really did have a sensational rear. There was a movie made in the mid 80's by Bob McTavish called Blown Away. It was an Australian production from what I remember but had a lot of footage form Hawaii and particularly Robby. At one stage he is talking about Kelby and actually makes reference that "just seeing her butt makes me sneeze"
I also agree by the way, Susan Gedayloo was a stunner!
I feel so sad, I have had a- assymetrical wave board, b- rope uni joint, c- de vries sails, d- aluminium masts, e- ALL the fins mentioned

I cant help thinkin there was probably some merit in a lot of that stuff. Isn't it the way that stuff doesn't necessarily succeed or fail because of its inherent properties but because of its success in the market place. You all know the old story of Beta being better VHS and the Mac better than pc/dos. Success in the market place is largely about perceptions and price.

Those F2 air pipes added a fair bit of complication (read cost) to the construction and they couldn't have provided anything more than a minuscule advantage.

That board with the big air hole in the nose by that Canadian bloke probably would have gone better. Now boards are shorter you need all the nose that's there for off the plane flotation.

Still, playing around with air flow around a board probably could provide some minor improvements.

Another unsuccessful gadget was the Crankin extension. It increased downhaul by pushing the mast up rather than pulling the sail down so the sail always stayed as low as possible. You could adjust it on the water too. I never saw one in the flesh. Maybe its time it was revisited.

My favorite failed gadget was the inflatable sailor fairing. It halved the aerodynamic drag on the sailor while doing the job of a PFD and an air bag for protection in catapults. Unfortunately it was prone to deploy in the back of the car and blow out all the windows.

Then there was the edible wet suit that provided sustenance to the stranded sailor. Unfortunately once you ate it you died of hypothermia.

Mate,
Those are Air pipes in the F2 SX,
Some guys have suggested that they could be used for
un natural acts !!
It's pretty scary catching one of your mates playing with the orifices in your board

And on that subject funnily enough when I had an SX many sailors would play with my board's orifices (I think I even caught Notwal once ). I just wished they put one round the other way so I could mount a fishing rod.

Whether they work or not no one will know apart from f2 who have probably tested pipes vs not pipes, but they do produce cleanest wake of any board i've seen.

Open cell foam core boards that soak up water from a leak and never let it out again. Imagine a manufacturer thinking there are people naive enough to buy something like that!

AHHHH Jenna! Don't forget Nathalie Simon, Joyce D'tavio??, or Jamie Hunt if you liked them thin. Sailboard quarterly circa 86 had a glossy girls of windsurfing issue, wow. Kelby and Jenna were always in the windrider mag in the 80's .Don't forget micky eskimo's wife who did not mind getting around without much on for the mags.

There's some lovely ladies out there today though, like F2's Nina or Scotty M's friend Margarita - talk about gorgeous.
