geoITA: When you measured, did you measure each mast once only ?. Or did you do multiple measurements of the same mast and calculate an average ?. What length of time period did you perform these measurements for each mast ?. Did you measure the masts to make sure they were the correct length ?. Was there a large temperature variation when you performed these measurements ? (eg: a cold clouding morning, then a day later on a hot sunny day with the mast sitting in the sun). Would be interesting to see the spread under same environmental conditions.
Gestalt: I think Slake masts are the only windsurfing product I know that uses a quality assurance standard (their web site is down at the moment, I can't check). But if a brand/product has no quality assurance (this is not just windsurfing), then I assume nothing.
Agree.
It’s great that slake offer that. I know of one brand that used to do the qa themselves but with new owners not sure if that still happens. This is what I think should be going on with all brands. It’s also worth noting that while this thread focusses on masts the sails also have tolerances and in some cases it’s the sail and not the mast. Or a combination which is why pro’s measure and test multiple masts and sails. It’s harder to build sails in tolerance.
