Nobbys is a fair way from here and anything with west tends to funnel in and along the sand dune corridor along Stockton beach.
You can check the Coastal_watch cam for Shoal Bay and Hawks Nest... they have a wind reading on the left hand side as you scroll down.
http://www.coastalwatch.com/camera/cameras_large.aspx?cam=2750&state=NSW&t=10:50:18%20AM&camName=Shoal%20BayI have kept a close watch on it and does not always match Nobbys which would suggest a different weather station up in the Bay/Hawks Nest region... just not sure where or how ?
You also check here:
www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN60800.shtmlLook under Hunter and then Nelson Bay.
It only gets updated a few times a day as its done by the volunteer sea rescue at Fly Point... Being older blokes, they like to do things the old fashioned way and take actual readings as opposed to relying on new fandangle machines and computers !
You can also ring them direct and ask them what the reading is and they will normally tell you over the phone.
Rough rule of thumb... if its got west in it.. it's most likely 5 - 10 knots stronger at Birubi then at Nobbys based purely on geographical nature of surrounding area.
