You have it the wrong way round... the old style resin polyester resin, often just called "fibreglass resin" in a hardware store, hurts new foam (polystyrene)
Epoxy can be used on old style construction which is a polyurethane foam
it will be fine
PS the fibreglass resin for surfboards or older windsurf boards contains styrene so don't be confused into thinking it is OK on ploystyrene.

As Mark says, epoxy is fine on old polyester, but don't use it on polyester if it's not completely cured, (a fortnight or so at room temp).
I've had trouble with resin setting when I used one on top of the other without waiting for a full cure.
Not sure now which way round it was, but best to be safe.

Epoxy will bond to polyester resin but its not really recommended as far as i'm aware. (could be wrong though) You're probably better off using polyester as it's less than half the price of epoxy and there shouldn't be any problems. Just make sure you rough up the surface you intend to glass to well; ie 100 grit sandpaper so the resin has something to bite into. If you're worried about not being able to sand it back without clogging the paper add 5% wax in styrene - this will remove the tackyness once the resin has cured. If you can't put up with the smell wear a respirator with an acid-gas filter.
