Anyone got any helpful hints on how to throw yourself over the handlebars in a semi controlled fashion taking your gear with you and sailing away?

i find the best preperation is to stay awake for at least 48hrs drink at least 1 bottle of J.D get your mate to punch you in the head a few times hold your breath for as long as possible than walk in front of a speeding train, than you should forget how unnatrual it is to throw yourself at full speed towards your mast and sail .I too am one that searches for this inner peace .keep the faith and be strong

If you've thought about it enough to write it here its already too late. 17 years and I still cant make my self do it.

One idea we have going is that money will do the trick. The way it works is to find a mate in a similiar predicament and put money up for the first one to forward.

However, must mention we have had this bet for bout 6mnths now, and still no fowards .

Bugger!!!

How about if an ancient grey beard threw one in front of you??
Would that add incentive?

Just don't expect ME to do it for you!!!!

I want to enjoy the rest of my sailing years on the water, not in bandages!!

I can do it

It's just with my brain fade I keep forgetting to take my gear with me

I spose I'll have to try griping the boom better than the bar

The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy once described the art of flying as "throwing yourself at the ground and missing" you could probabbly put forwards in the same catagory.

Hats of to the crew who have the courage to do them.

Hi,
although, my nickname suggests it, I am not a perfect frontlooper (see Mandurah video), but I have made it already a couple of times. However, there are a couple of hints, that can help, but it is definitely better to talk about that than to write. So, when you see me next time on the water, I try to help you, may be someone can try to help me with my frontloop as well.

One hint is for example to rotate with medium speed without your bord, that is not exactly the same, but it helped me to overcome the barrier.

Another thing that help me is not to much pressure in the sail, although, you need a bit pressure to do a full rotation.

Do not make a high jump and do not jump in the wind.

Once, we had a good "how to do" story in the German SURF magazin, there they showed e.g. rolling down a dune with a sail. Sounds funny, but is very helpful.

Hope I could help.
See you

That reminds me, at Coro last year saw some young guys practising on the beach.
Thought they were practicing water starts at first, but soon became apparent they were well beyond that!!!!
Forward somersaults from a sitting position, using the sail to power them round. No body came to grief but it didn't look all that safe to me.
Any body tried it???

i tried a cheese roll today on the river which is a jump with a roll around your mast thingy like a forward but you dont need big air to clear the mast from hitting the water
i just ended up looking like a catapaulting spastic going in all directions

Two exercises we were asked to do during a lesson in Maui. 1. You sail along, move your body forward to try to look around the front of the mast, as you do this oversheet hard and throw yourself around the front of the mast, keep looking back as you go round the mast (holding on to boom & feet in staps of course). If you do it right you end up on your back..wear lots of padding. 2. Once you've done that a few times and your back is nice and red. You then do a little chop hop, land nose first, as you land do step 1. Once you get that and your back is really red, then try with a more air. I must say it's really hard to psyche youself to throw your body around the front.

You should check out this site www.roynbartholdi.com/ & look in the "Moves" section. This guy has some good step by step instructions/pictures for heaps of different moves. All I
can suggest is to put your brain in your pocket & just go for it - on someone elses gear of course...!
