did anyone see the 10 news tonight! omg! A MAN EATER SHARK IS TERRORISING SYDNEY BEACHES!!!! was how the story is being presented, they then went on to say " the shark has reportedly eaten a pelican and a dog"

doesnt that make it a "Pelican eater shark" or a "dog eater shark" I cant recall the shark actually eating a man.

kind of like the guy who got bitten at Ballina, the news said he was "mauled" by the shark, but he was released the next day, Im sure if he was mauled it would have needed a bit more care, now im not discounting old mate that was bitten, that would have hurt!!

ahh the press! for the best drama available, watch the news!

By the way, dont get me wrong, its great they are looking for the shark, and there is now an awareness for the sharks presence, its just the fear mongering the press love to create I find amusing.

And don't you love the way it's always a Great White. With the recent attack on the scuba diver the first report said he thought it was a White, then every report after that it WAS a White. But the best bit was, wait for it, he said he spent two minutes inside the sharks mouth without his scuba gear (they were fully underwater). And ... actually this is the best bit ... I never heard anyone question it.
Perhaps his injuries were really from falling off his pushbike, but he didn't think New Idea would want that story

Are you sure it wasn't a seal? There was a seal playing around at St Kilda on Tuesday.

The shark you guys are talking about is supposed to be a 4m great white and it has been swimming around the beach at La Perouse in the east of Botany Bay. A guy has a tinnie rental there and he reckons its bigger than his boats which are 13 foot. The council has 2 guys on jet skis and a chopper patrolling the whole area.
the media does love to sensationalise but seeing that myself and lots of guys sail at Bestic St near the airport runway, the thought of waiting for a gust to waterstart with something like that swimming around tends to change the colour of your boardies!!
Botany Bay is a "sharky" spot anyway so to the man in the grey suit, please leave

On the northern beaches of Perth a couple of weeks ago, all the windsurfers were sent back to shore by the lifesavers. They were running around in their little rubberducky/zodiac telling everyone that a shark had been sighted up the beach 400m.

~2m they reckoned.

But a shark sighting is different to a shark attack, isn't it?

So after an hour on the beach we were all out sailing again.

exactly Leech, to say that a shark was SIGHTED means simply that, and somehow people just assume that no sighting = no shark, therefore we're all safe. hmmm.

the fact is, as we all know, the sharks are there, 99.9% of the time minding their own business, and going unseen...
