what's the go with sandy point - can anyone just turn up and sail?
i may be able to come but with hire kit, is that cool?
Also, what's the best plan for accomodation down there? is there camping?
The Melbourne Cup long weekend is one of the busiest times of the year, with SHQ hosting various competitions and a roast spit. *Lots* of guys appear out of the woodwork and are there simply for the atmosphere. SHQ also usually brings some demo gear for people to test/play with. So just turn up - doesn't matter if it is hire gear, its about getting out on the water.
Usually non-peak times there is plenty of camping available at the caravan park and various rooms/units/houses are available. However, during peak times (Melbourne Cup) there is a bit of a shortage. Since SP is only 2.5 hours (190km) from the city, it is do-able as a day trip, ie: will cost about $40 or so in fuel for the round trip.
Someone might have a spare bed and shower for a small cost - bring a sleeping bag and ask around. In particular speak to Mathew from the KA sponsored house (KA have sponsored the house for whole week + both weekends) as there is probably some room available or at least some floor space.
