i am looking to start a new windsurfing club in se queensland. hoping to get some initial support so i can start to put the wheels in motion. if anyone is keen please let me know via email or in this thread. it will be a non profit organisation.

WIND WANDERERS

Agenda

Wind wanderers will endeavour to put the social fun back into windsurfing by uniting like minded sailors to sail at different venues between Redcliffe and Currumbin on a monthly basis. Events will be non-competitive and held at locations suitable for great sailing and a great family and social atmosphere.
It is hoped that joining sailors of all experiences together will raise the standard and fun factor for all involved.

All notices of meets will be posted on www.seabreeze.com.au/

Meets

Sessions will normally be held from 1pm onwards with the bbq at about 4.30pm. It is our intention to have meets sponsored by industry retailers who will provide a bbq at the end of each session. We will endeavour to include at least one major event per year (xmas, easter) where we will seek lucky draw prize gifts from wind wanderer sponsors.

Suggested event ideas are as follows :-
Wave sailing sessions, Slalom blasting, Downwind Runs, Bump and Jump expression sessions, GPS street drags, swap meets, Learner Days by ayf accredited instructor,

Sailing locations

All Locations have the following resources available.

1. Lots of parking.
2. green grass rigging areas
3. sand beaches
4. bbq and/or toilets/showers
5. kids playgrounds and/or life guard patrols
6. local shops

Locations are listed below and will be selected by vote by the members in advance. Wind conditions and tides should be taken into account where applicable.

Gold Coast
1. Currumbin
2. Narrow neck
3. Shearwater
4. The train

Bris Vegas
1. Wello (northern side)
2. Victoria point
3. Wynumm
4. Cleveland (raby bay)

Redcliffe
1. Sutton’s beach
2. Queens beach

There is also some support for interstate travel to events such as Smackfest, Sandy point etc as well as weekend away trips. Numbers will make these ideas possible.

Note
Wanderer’s days will be planned around Windsurfing Queensland event calendars to allow those that like to compete to enjoy that aspect of the sport. Wind Wanderers also has no ties or affiliations with Windsurfing Queensland.
Wind Wanderers accepts no liability for incidents which may occur at meets. A waiver may be required to be signed upon joining the club. This club will be a collective based non profit organisation.

cheers to all
gestalt.

mmmm wind wanderers? my wife accuses me of being a bit of a wanderer, my head tends to wander off....... what was I talking about, oh yeah, maybe something a bit more ferocious a name, like wind warriors, makes it sound like I would belong to a biker gang that way!

sounds like a great idea, sometimes harnessing a freedom sport is tough, but if there is a common unity, im sure most would go to every so often turn out.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the support and responses.
Well we have hit double figures with people keen to join in. Shows that although windsurfing is a solo sport people like to solo together

All of the responses from last night plus my update have disappeared from the forum (due to the server issues) so I am reposting to let everyone know where we are at. Could those that posted, (Elizabeth, TL and others) please repost so I have your details.

Latest News…..

The latest is that I have managed to secure a sponsor for the first meet on the 22nd of April. The idea is to all join up for an afternoon sail at a great spot and then share a bbq at the end of the day. If the wind doesn’t come in then we can have the bbq early and go to the pub, or have the bbq and stay at the beach, talk up our best moves and build sand castle examples.

There are non windsurfers interested in coming along too so all are welcome.
If every 4 weeks is to often then we can meet every 6 weeks. But lets be honest we all sail more than every 6 weeks so why not sail together.

Everyone gets to vote on where they think we should go. To start the ball rolling I am tabling Redcliffe. Then we will all decide where to next. If anyone has any secret spots they think we should go to then let me know and I can add them to the list. We should try and keep the locations in line with the top 6 resources list. The locations have been selected because they are great windsurfing spots and great for family and friends as well. Shearwater was added because it is just a great spot.

There have been lots of people suggesting a name change. I have no problem with finding a new name. We can start brainstorm at the next meet and see what we come up with.

To all the people on the sunshine coast, thanks for your interest. I will try and organise something up your way so you can join in as well. It may be a good opportunity to spend the weekend at the lake or visit Caloundra. I am endeavouring to keep the travelling to a minimum for everyone involved. Watch this space because a sunshine coast club may be starting up as well.

For a future event I am trying to organise beginners gear and lessons to be available. If anyone has friends or family that want to get into windsurfing it would be a great opportunity. I am still trying to tie up loose ends and confirm the details so I will keep you all informed.

Thanks again
Cheers to all
Gestalt.

Hi all.

Another update...

I am confirming the inaugural meet will occur on Sat 22nd of April. Location:- Suttons Beach Redcliffe. Tide will be high in the afternoon. I had to move it to the 22nd as some people will be away on the 15th due to Easter and a possible trek to Bundaberg.

the day will be sponsored by Surfconnect.

Other News.....

Things are still steamrolling along at the moment. I have been contacted and offered more industry support and have been lobbying others. I have managed to secure Caloundra wind and surf to sponsor the second meet as well.

We will all need to decide on a name so I can prepare a club logo. The guys at WindWarrior have offered to help out with some clothing. Nothing has been finalised yet but they have been completely selfless with what they have proposed. Big thanks guys.

If there are any other windsurfing based businesses that want to get involved please let me know.

Another item that has been mentioned in some of the emails that I have received is Public Liability Insurance. I am trying to make in roads into this one at the moment and will see what I can come up with. It will not be compulsory but I will have a waiver to sign on the day to protect the long term interest of the club so it can benefit all in the long term. Some people may already have cover by being members of Windsurfing Queensland.

Members packs. I am also trying to put together members packs. As there are no joining fees for the club it will depend solely on industry support. So far there are a few items to put in the packs but this idea won’t really be complete until maybe the second or third meet. I will try and include a membership card as well.

Website News. There is a possibility that the club may be able to attach to a current windsurfing website to post news of meets and photos. Still in the pipeline but hopefull.

Car Pooling. There are a couple of guys coming up from the goldie that need a lift. If anyone can help out then drop me an email and I will put you in touch. There is also some people coming from the sunshine coast so if anyone needs a lift or can provide a lift let me know as well.

I just want to extend my thanks again to everyone helping out. Although there are some formalities to go through to get things off the ground it is an informal club.
At the end of the day this club is a social windsurfing club about the members. I think the club agenda sums it all up. Anyone can have a say and everyone is welcome no matter what ability level. There are no joining fees and no expectations. I am just the person putting it all into action. I don’t work in the industry but I have a love for the sport. please keep your posts coming.....

Cheers
Gestalt.

Maybe we could have a "first dork to loop" competition for dorks who want to learn to loop.

Great to hear the first date finalised! We having a gearswap too? There's a big grass area in the middle of Suttons Beach (on the right as you drive into the carpark at Suttons) which I think wil be ideal for the meet. If so, I will write to Redcliffe council to make sure they have no objection of our event.

hi everyone,

looking forward to seeing you all at sutton's beach on saturday from 1pm onwards. parking is the area just off the roundabout at the end of margate parade.

there will be a gear swap on, plus the bbq and windsurfing.

I will have a waiver for anyone wanting to participate in the windsurfing so everyone will need to see me when they turn up, this will also include a members sign on form and reveal the new club logo.

i'll be wearing a black KA sails t-shirt. (no, i'm not sponsored). just ask for Justin (the one with hair).

I'll also be outlining the plans for the club's future during the bbq and let everyone know about the sponsors, plus future possible give aways and the up and coming members packs. The other business to be discussed during the BBQ is where to next? Vicki point, Wello, The Train?????

The guys at OzWindsurf are going to run a piece about the club so keep an eye out on their website (Weekly News). they will also be there on the day to enjoy the festivities as well, along with people from some of the local shops and windsurfers from the sunshine coast to the gold coast.

everyone is welcome, non sailors, kite surfers, beginners and experts. everyone will be included.

other than great swells and some of the best wind in brisbane there is a playground and a patrolled beach. I know i'm torn. what to do first?

cheers to all
Gestalt.

A big thanks to everyone that turned up for the first meet. Specially those from the sunny coast and the goldie. i think the day was a big success. blue sky, 18-20knots and some of the friendliest people in queensland. redcliffe turned on fun 1 foot waves with some bigger swells out the back and steady cross onshore conditions.

we had 27 people sign up to the club. there were also 5 non sailors and about another 10 for the gear swap. so about 45 all up. We had people from all ages and experience enjoying the great conditions redcliffe had to offer.

thanks to thor for manning the BBQ. job well done. thanks to patrick at surfconnect as well for supplying the drinks and food.

i have uploaded some photos in the photo section and hope i got all the names and faces right.

we had at least 9 people come down from the sunny coast so the club will definately be travelling up your way soon. i have some sponsors lined up. we also had about 9 from the goldie so it was an even split between brisbane, the goldie and the sunny coast.

for the next meet we will start the day with the bbq. allowing us all to sail on a full stomach and make the most of the afternoon breezes. i will be posting the vote for the next venue in the next few weeks. at this stage the club will look to meet in about 6 weeks time. give me some time to sort out the weather and tide....

i am in the process of starting a club webpage. got myself a copy of dreamweaver for dummies. so i'll keep everyone informed.

i now have a club email windwanderers"@"iinet.net.au don't forget to take out the "

thanks again for everyone getting involved.
cheers gestalt. (justin)

p.s extremely big thanks Laurie. the club owes you many thanks for your web site.
