Hi Gestalt, as a reddy local it was good to see such a crowd, I've been here 7 years and not seen so many sails on the water. A great day all round, but you should have been here today it was going off (not).

Big Thanxxx for organising that great meeting. It was a long way up from the gold coast, but it was worth it.
Looking forward for the next time.

Fantastic event and just what we needed for the sport. The gearswap is definitely a winner too. Keep up the good work mate!

hi everyone,

i am confirming the date for the next windwanderers bbq.

Saturday 3rd of june. so that is in 5 weeks time. was hoping for the week before but the tide is not good. should still be a few nice southerlies around.

the vote for the next location is for either

1. brisbane (victoria point or wello depending on wind direction)
2. gold coast at the train.

so just email the windwanderers with brisbane or goldie as the subject. voting will close in 1 weeks time.

cheers
gestalt.

Hi lungs,

no worries.

shearwater can be found at shearwater esplanade, runaway bay. locals prefer it with a southerly and an outgoing tide. no sandbars. just over to south stradie island and back. i reckon it would be good in northerlies as well but i haven't sailed it with that wind direction yet.

another spot very close by with less boat traffic is jennifer avenue, runaway bay. same deal as shearwater with wind and tide.

the train is off north street/gold coast highway intersection at southport. small carpark and big rigging area. works best in a northerlies. lots of sandbars.

haircut an nebbian are true locals so they may have some better tips.

happy sailing...

The train isn't much good in any wind with even a tiny bit of west in it, due to the massive highrises just inland. SE it's perfect though

Shearwater apparently has a better range of wind directions, although it's close to the seaway so gets some decent tides. I've only been there once but talking to the locals it's difficult to stay upwind when the tide's going the same way as the wind, due to it being so close to the entrance to the sea. I never really give the tide direction much thought at the train, apart from knowing which sandbars are fin-breaking at low tide.

Good luck, hope to see you out there!
