The train isn't much good in any wind with even a tiny bit of west in it, due to the massive highrises just inland. SE it's perfect though

Shearwater apparently has a better range of wind directions, although it's close to the seaway so gets some decent tides. I've only been there once but talking to the locals it's difficult to stay upwind when the tide's going the same way as the wind, due to it being so close to the entrance to the sea. I never really give the tide direction much thought at the train, apart from knowing which sandbars are fin-breaking at low tide.
