(no offence to any body) im 17 and looovvvee windsurfing. its the sickest sport ever. but i thought i was a rare one cause of my age. who else is under 20????? and windsurfs??? and wishes that him/HER is windsurfing when sleeping,or at work/school,? and spends every cent they earn on new gear!

Yep 14 for me. And i always want to be out sailing during school. I think the worst part is i cant drive yet so i'm always relient on my dad taking me which isn't great at all. "To cold in winter", "I'm to tired", "To busy this weekend", "I don't think you've been good enough" are the common ones. Soooo annoying. I want to get my P's ASAP because it's realy crap relying on your parents to take you. Especially when theres two other sibblings in the family. At least my brother can drive himself now though. And my mum also refuses to take me because 1. she cant drive the manual ute which is the only car big enough to get the gear around and 2. because she doesn't like watching me when she isn't in the water. And she is NEVER in the water. Its a taugh life lol.

i spoze im pretty lucky because my dad knows that its the one thing i like is windsurfing, and that i really hate school. and all i wanna do is be a windsurfer with a label, (crawf....it could happen) so he will take me out of school, "sometimes" when its blowing 25 knot's, but im working on a plan with him, where if it is blowing 25 knots or more, and i havent got a test, or one comming up, he will come get me out of school after lunch so i can get a good 4 or 5 hours in, (especially in summer with day light savings). and im hoping this works, cos when comes summer, should be getting out a fair bit :D:D.

and bubs why dont you get one of those pocket rockets, and make your self a windsurf trailer, just make sure you load the trailer with breaks, ( use two old bike forks, and get some G breaks, weld the break cable or solder together), than you can make one handle your pocket rocked a trailer break and than use the foot break for your bike so you dont die when your goin down a hill. dono how you are with your metal work but i recon a little set up like that would be sweet, mind you for the same price you could by your self a new sail. but i think i may just do that my self. sounds fun

Yeah I'm 27 and wish I took it up when I was in my teens!!! Was surfing heaps and lived in Dongara (near Gero)for a while. Never really thought about it. But man I wish I had, I might be half decent by now Started last summer when I got some lessons as a gift and new straight away that I'd discovered a life long addiction!!! Now I spend all my spare cash on kit, my girl that payed for the lessons just shakes her head and says "what have I unleashed"! haha[}:)]

do you other younger windsurfers, think that no one(who doestn sail) can understand y we cant stop talking about sessions we have had, how we cant stop talking about the last weekend, and the wind, and none of them can understand our love for the weekend, do you guys experience this, or is it the fact that i just talk about it way to much and should shut up. oh and does any one get the window stare looking at the top of the treas, while the teacher is yelling at you to pay attention. or is that just me aswell

I used to get that sort of thing when I started surfing @ 16. Surfing is a main stream sport these days taken for granted, but 46 years ago that wasn't the case. Surfers were looked on as some strange perhaps dangerous creatures. "Stoked" is an old surfing term and back then only a surfer could understand it. These days windsurfers also know what it means!!!!

Ha ha jord mate when it's an hour drive to where i sail thats goin to be quite a long bike trip. Not to mention i live in the hills aswell. The short run to the beach (which i don't like sailing at as much and havn't since i was about 7yo) is half an hour mabey 20 mins in a car, once again through the hills and back up them. It's kinda difficult. + all the gear. And i'm not very good at judging what to take, i always get it wrong, so we just take everything. I see where your coming from though lol. So i am completely relient on my parents no matter what happens.

im hoping that your display pic isn't of you, because if it is your showing me up. and you have 3 superfreeks, gees, i only have 2 (only one atm because i just ordered my new 2008 5.3) and with the water, why dont you jsut put on two wet suits. and also i have a 160ltr go, and it is sweet what are the 100ltr ones like, never seen on out, i recon it woudl be sweet on the liter days for cruising around the river going out to the deep water where the fairies cross.

I thought 'fairies' was a term for something else in the great red land?
Perhaps you meant 'kiters' Jord?!

I'm 27 and only started windsurfing last year - tonnes of people think I'm nuts still sailing in the middle of winter (it snowed yesterday..) but any wind that gives me the chance to practice my jibes is good. I have to get them sorted ASAP because I'm only 30 minutes drive from some of the best wave sailing this side of Maui.

There's a 12 year old kid who was watching intently while I messed around in the shallows practicing light wind heli-tacks a while back - he was keen to have a try, but wasn't strong enough to lift the rig by himself. I managed to get him set up and balanced on my old longboard before letting go. He only sailed 10m in about 6 knots, but was so stoked that I wouldn't be surprised to see him at the beach with his own gear once it warms up again.

It is great to see new blood coming into the sport. We need them to keep the sport growing. We are the one and only accredited Yachting Australia Windsurfing Training Centre in Brisbane and shall be running free clinics this season at local schools. Anyone interested should get your sports teacher to write to us so we can arrange it at your school. We do a lot of lessons/courses with local groups too, scouts and cadets so if you are involved in that too, get your leader to contact us. All our courses are Yachting Australia certificated.

Anyone young guns think they have what it takes we are signing up for new Team Riders for 2008. Details can be found here -

www.seabreeze.com.au/Members/Content/News/Kitesurfing/Recruiting-Qld-Team-Riders-now_1182467.aspx

Happy sailing!

Geraldton has about ten groms from 14 to 18 going hard . They are frothing for summer breezes to come. Had to give them heaps of old gear to get started, but they are hooked. It's so good watching how quickly they pick it up and go for it.

Good work Stonesurf! Windsurfing is not the cheapest sport in the world so it is good to help the young guys out!!

Here in South Australia we are lacking young groms that windsurf. I think it comes back to the cost of windsurfing. It is so much easier just to go and buy a surf board and a wet suit and your away.

Ah to be 17 again. Screaming downwind on a Windsurfer One Design, daggerboard slung over the shoulder, water gushing out of the daggerboard slot straight into your eyes, then the uni pops out and you and the rig catapult 20 meters through the air and nearly drowning because you're grinning so much you swallow heaps of water.

Hey guys, you don't have to be under 20 (I'm in my very late 20's (38)) to act like a big kid with a new toy when santa brings you a new board; or over exaggerate about how much air you got or how fast you went today.... However, you should definitely be grateful you live somewhere where you can windsurf regularly in the sun without a wetsuit (shorts optional ); in the UK you do most of your sailing in the winter in a 6mm semi-drysuit with blue fingures/toes and ears, pissing down with rain, hail and occasionally snow, but you still have a big . I just hope SA turns outto be just as good but WARM!!!!

I don't think I can wait several months for my kit to arrive out here, and it probably needs replacing anyway; time for a trip to the nearest shop to look at some goodies
