Let's see...
Out of the top ten nautical mile scores on the challenge site, we have the following locations:

1 x Namibia
1 x Wello/Vicky Pt (can't tell from the post)
1 x Lechenault inlet
7 x Hardies run

Mark, you really should come over and try this spot, it's like nothing you've got over east...

Thats Cool nebs seeing my my local the lechenault inlet ranked 3rd

I think the idea has merit and shouldn't be shelved just because of one whinging Qld'er who doesn't like to leave home

Based on threads over the last year on "cheapest van rental" and "best airline for sports equip" AWA or WWA etc should contact Wicked Campers (van rental) and Virgin Airlines for sponsorship.

It could then be the "Wicked Virgin Nautical Mile Championships"
has a nice ring to it

Hey Hardie, what about a Yorkey's NM Speed Championship, everyone's invited.

Just kidding mate, an Australia NM Speed Championship with the AWA is a great idea.
I can't see why it can't be called an Australian championship, why not hold it in a different state each year, stating at Hardies Run ?
That way everyone gets a chance to be the king of the NM. We just have to wait till it's near a water hole near us. If you're super competitive, take the drive, or like me stay home and chase the wife around the spa.
And yeh, stick with the NM, more variables.

I can remember the Qld Slalom Title being held around the state, even at Green Island, was still a Qld championship

Was just thinking, might be a good time between those dates, to go over and visit my Ma
I can see Hardies Hero's trembling in their harness's now

Sounds like it is going to be the "Western Australian NM Speed Championship"...

OR, the Australian NM Speed Championship, just run at three or four different places over a two week period???

Have the event in a different State each year if that makes it fairer, if that's a real word.

Why can't the individual State Windsurfing Associations subsidise or pay for a couple of their state's fastest to travel to where ever the event would be in that particular year?
Run a state elimination comp & send your best.

Windsurfing WA bought airfares for a couple of WA sailors a few years back so they could go overseas and compete.
Domestic would be way cheaper and when windsurfers travel interstate now for comps the host state usually help out with transport & accommodation etc.

It's a good idea Hardie. You have a really good NM venue that has reliable winds. Makes sense to me.
I probably could not make it but you never know.....

BTW, we have been investigating a certain spot over here that has a 9km run in flat water and very reliable winds from the best direction in the winter and spring. Looks like some good NM's may be coming up soon if we can solve the access issues.

Well the most enthusiastic responses have been from W Ozzies, maybe we should just make it a state championship, see how it goes from there, and WWA run it?

I don't think this would be a good idea unless the states involved could convince us they have a suitable speed venue with consistent winds at the time a comp is proposed. There is nothing worse than traveling half way around this (huge) country only to sit on a windless beach for a couple of weeks.

Hardies run has proved it's possibilities, especially for the NM. There may be one or two other places in the country that could be reliable enough for a fixed time event but we would need to be pretty confident before committing to a rotating series.

It would be good to see what happens at Hardies next summer if an event can be organised. Even if it is predominately patronised by Sand Gropers, if it is successful event I might take off and grow.....

Lets see. Do I drive or fly? Bloody hell! It's a massive drive!!!! But if I go by air I can't take all my toys!

If you're gonna go all that way, you'd want to take the wave board too.
