great photos ploppy. thanks for sharing.

hi trousers,

burrum heads is about 4.5 hrs north of brisbane in the wide bay area. (between bundaberg and hervey bay). the strip is curved and 4.5 km long.

there are at least another 2 strips that the locals use. the water is crystal clear and warm, the sand is white and there are palm trees everywhere. (sounds nice hey )

the seasons are northerlies around oct/nov and southerlies around feb/mar. the bump and jump is also fantastic plus there are small waves on offer.

the day after the speed event i went sailing (although briefly) at high tide in perfect conditions. the wind kicks in around lunch time most days.

the event was started 3 years ago and we moved it to burrum heads 2 years ago once local guru geoff had let us know just how good the place is.

most say no need to go to fiji just go to burrum.

what stands out at burrum is how friendly and laid back everyone is. at the event we had lots of kids who also love the place.

oh, i forgot to mention, when it's not windy apparently the fishing is top notch. i think the place hosts one of the biggest fishing comp in qld over easter.

some more photos.

Hi Ka 43,

day 1 - 15-25 knots,

gear was everything from speed boards with 25cm fins and 5.6m sails through to freeride boards and 7m sails.

day 2 - squally 5-15 knots

same gear as above.

the barge in the photo took out extra gear for competitors plus support crew and spectators and housed the infamous bbq, coffee station and amenities.

i'm not certain about that. i'd think for wind over winter try green island, they get the winter trades.

there is a speed comp up there around that time.

maybe one of the locals can comment?

cheers.

Cheers Gesalt.

Although some may find this a sad indictment of my life, I cannot think of a time when I'm happier than in nice weather, powered up with loads of other sailors, so those shots look like my idea of heaven.

I gotta move somewhere windier...

I would like to say it was the best weeks windsurfing holiday of my life sailing most days parties every night. Plus meeting new windsurfers & putting faces to names on the net gps site.
