The change isn't for the two best team members on the day, it's the two best results on the day in each division. That means you could end up with 12 members contributing, not likely but posible.

Now I'm on a 2 man team, but I'm guessing if I was on a bigger team, I'd feel a little guilty posting slow times and dragging the team down. I know that's not the spirit of the comp, but reality.
Now if I could post and not drag the team down, and with the posibility of contributing to a division, I'd be a happy camper

Nebbian - I understand where you are coming from. But there are guys out there that even on their best day will never be counted towards a team score - it already is occurring and will continue to do so. If you want to know where then PM me and i will divulge the culprits. So how can this be a team challenge if not all team members results are to be considered?

The only folks that will be opposed to this are those who have sailors that even on their best day will bring the team average down, and they want to win at all costs and did not get the team they want.

Give everyone in the team the month to log a run - and maybe allow a drop off for a sailor that may not get out or something of the like.

Can someone tell me what is the opposition of making all team members results count?

Oh please do divulge the culprits, instead of all the innuendo just speak up.

There are rules already and people are playing within them- you're not happy, a change is proposed you're not happy.

My one and only concern here is that people aren't posting their times, because it hurts the team average to do so.
I don't want anyone to ever think that they aren't worthy of being in their team. This is what the change should alleviate. You post, and if the score helps, then it's counted. There's never any question of posting, and the other team members rousing on you for dropping their average.

I don't believe that there are any people whose scores would never be counted... but if they do exist, then isn't this an incentive to put up that bigger sail, bag it out and grit their teeth that little bit harder? Or get that planing exit? Or simply sail all day to get the max distance score (my secret strategy ).

People who have logged on in the last day or so might have noticed the new hyperlinks to the "personal bests" page... without spelling it out explicitly I see this as the way forward... (Shhh!)

Some people have other reasons for joining and will rarely post.
- This cannot be helped.

Others would love to post but fear to hurt the team.
- This is eliminated with the 2 best rule.

Some play as a team; checking before they post their score (note this is currently within the rules).
- Again eliminated with 2 best rule.

Some post in the name of being a team.
- This is promoted with 2 best rule.

My view is we trial the top 2 in each category, from July 1 for a 2 month period. While there are excellent ideas on different aspects of how to make the challenge fairer, this seems to be the simplest and fairest. It will be impossible to keep everyone happy!!!! I just wanted as many people as possible to have a say, it's called consultation, however, leadership is about leading and making a decision also. So unless Nebbs and I are confronted with a brilliant or compelling alternative, July 1 we begin trial.

Hi All,

Sorry I haven't contributed to the debate but I have changed job recently and they have a really strict internet policy at the new place!! (fascists!!)

Anyway regarding the proposed rule changes:

Doesn't matter which way you score it. (As long as the prises are drawn randomly, Karma will provide!)

BTW This comp has added a lot of fun to our sailing. Thanks for organizing it and the website.

Cheers,

Simon

Team Whippet

PS Nebs, I think you might have something there with the personal bests

I think the rule change is a good idea. It means that if your not that strong at one particular part of this comp, then you can contribute in others! _ The smater teams will work on this rule change, and it will become a real 'TEAM' event.

Well done.

Now we just need one of those long distance offshore wind, slalom races like they have in France. 700 hundred competitors I heard.
