I am thinking of putting together some how-to-use-your-GPS sessions to run through our region this season. They would be hands-on demonstration sessions, where we go through from end to end, setting the devices up, understanding the settings, different scenarios, firmware upgrades and so on.

I imagine running them at sailing club premises, with a few slides, and people bringing in their devices to check the settings/firmware and so on.

With that in mind, can anyone suggest topics that I should include?

I already plan to cover basics, but I'm not familiar with Speed Genie and some of the more ambitious uses of the devices (helmet mounted for audio, for example) that people might be interested in finding out about.

If it works out, I could put a slideshow+audio session online for others to access.

Cheers,

Dylan.

Once I've delivered a few, and have a good idea what people want, we'll try to package something up for internet delivery.

That would be very useful. I think a bit of understanding would go a long way to helping us set these up optimally for ourselves.
We tend to use the recommended settings but don't really know why.

"As long as you have it the right way up, you should be fine."
- my favourite bit of bad GPS advice.

Thanks Dylan

The update software can only be run in Windows.

I don't know if anyone has tried it, but you should be able to do it on a Mac by booting the Mac up in Windows natively.

Otherwise, find a friend with windows. :-)

BUT, you should not need to update the firmware if you already have one of the Genie windsurfing versions 1, 2 or 3 that end in "a" or "T", unless you are experiencing problems. (Freezing or won't get a fix etc).
