Is it possible to reshape the rail of my old slalom board to make it friendlier in the gybes & chop and into a narrow GPS speedster?
i have a Waihau & Windtech.
Thinking of routering 1/4 round to remove extra sharp edge. Then re surfacing.
Just a project and if it don't work then she can hang up as a new (refurbished) look board.

Yep 2 , reshaped tails and rocker lines

It is a good way to get into tinkering. Those two boards usually have nice rockers. Just soften the rails up front and trim the nose and you will have some nice speed sleds.Decrepit can tell you how to do it properly but even amateur attempts work if you don't mind the rough look. Did both Windtech and Waihau. 2 different ways. Both improved handling and confidence in chop etc.

That's all Yoyo used, his modified waihau and windtech. From memory they both hit 38kts

It's a while ago now, but if my memory serves me well, (and it's a big if) the first he shaped the old rail and re glassed. The second he added foam to the rail and shaped that, then glassed. I guess it depend if you want more or less board,

Fibreglass is very good at blunting tools, and carbon is good at shorting out the commutator and burning the motor out. So good luck.
But there's one problem I see using a router. Ideally the tuck should taper off from just in front of the front strap to nothing between front and rear straps. The tuck on my estuary boards is some where between 5mm and 10mm, wave boards get closer to 15mm

I didn't meant to discourage you. I've only burnt out two routers and one grinder in 15 years.
No that's wrong one of the routers didn't burn out, the carbon dust shorted the off on switch, so the thing wouldn't turn off. Very disconcerting to say the least.
