Hi together,

I want to introduce you my Windsurfing app: WindsportTracker

you can download it from Google Play Store here:

play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.sunbits.windsporttracker&referrer=utm_source%3Dweb%26utm_medium%3Dseabreze%26utm_campaign%3Dseabreazepost

Windsporttracker is made for all windsurfers. So when you are very beginner or a pro, you both can see how you make progress and how you can optimize your gear.

The app can either record a session, or import GPX 1.0 / 1.1 and SBP files.
You see how much distance you sailed, how much of it you where planing, how long did you sailed and how long where you planing.
Also you see how many jibes (gybes) you made , how many where successful and how many where fully planing.

For the Speed sailors, you will also see: what's you maximum speed, your 10 bests, avg of 5 best and avg of 10 best speeds for: 2s, 5s, 10s, 100m, 250m, 500m, 1NM, alpha 250, alpha500, alpha1000 and 1h and 24h.

After having some sessions recorded you see this data in yearly and monthly statistics.

You can also add your gear, and get the same data by gear.
So after some sessions, you know your fastest board, sail or fin, or wich of those is your best jibing gear.

I still have other ideas to improve the app, so if you have any ideas feedback etc. it's always welcome and allows me to make the app better.
Hope you like it, and enjoy sailing

best Matthias

Your app is pretty smart. I'm still finding my way around but would like to be able to delete tracks that were uploaded by accident.

thank you very much :)

to delete a session or gear, just swipe it to the right .
after this you have 30 seconds to undo this -> just press the undo button wich appears afterwords

Very clever! I swiped tot he left because that's what I do to delete emails.

It took me a little while to figure out that I have to pre-populate the gear. I uploaded a track and then kept pressing on the gear thinking that I could choose, board, find and sail from there.

One other thing, your app seemed to be overly generous to the tune of about 0.3 of a knot. Which suited me fine!

yeah, some emails swipe right, some left. and some both, I choose right as I found it more convenient (at least for right handed people)

hm, what did you mean exactly with tune about 0.3 of a knot ?

KA72 had me down for 29.88 knots maximum and your app had me at 30.54.

Hi,

I just send you an in-mail, if you could send me your track, this would help me to check where the difference comes from.

I think its because of different accuracy filters. (maybe depend on file format as some formats don't have accuracy data included)
But need to see the track itself.

Iguess you used a track from 3rd Party device to analyze with the app and KA72 ?
would be interesting how a track recorded with the App would behave in KA72.

I could see a bunch of alphas in different colours. Is there somewhere that tells me which is which? Maybe you could have the font colour of the numbers match the colour on the map?

Hi,

regarding the difference for speed values.
I found the issue and will fix it. It happens because you track is recorded with higher frequency of fixes per second (5hz)
thats why all time related (2s 5s 10s) speed values are little different to ka72.
But I will fix it and then the app and ka72 should show you the exact same values. thank you for your help (didn't had a 5hz track before)

regarding the colors.
I'm collecting ideas how this could be solved best. so color of the value is option, have to try it, thought it may be to colored but lets see. Another option (but more complicated) is to put the colors legend directly on map.

but fore sure I will definitely improve this.

for now, pink color is your fastest value, the more it gets into green the slower the value is.

Good job Matthias.

I reckon making the font colour of the speed digits the same as in the map would work best. Especially if the legend is more work.

I wondered if clicking on the coloured part of the track would pop up the speed in a balloon. This is probably even more work.

Maybe some of the other speed measures could do the same.

Hi,

thank you :)

good ideas :) I will check wich one will fit best, or maybe a combination of two lets see.

what other speed measures did you mean ? you can click on the 5s 10s etc rows to see those values on the map.

ah yes, sure I will apply this for all speed values :)

I fixed the issue with the speed difference on time based measures (2s 5s 10s 1h 24h) , this only apply's to sessions recorded with high frequency (5hz updates) all others are already correct.

The fix will be included in the next update something in September (as I think the difference is little and only effect is the display in the app) to get some more stuff in as well.

I also checked why alpha500 is different, and found that ka72 shows a alpha500 which is 900m and uses a gate of 82m.
but as I understand alpha500 its maximum 500m and the gate size is maximum 50m

so now I collect more feedback, and will improve the speed colors etc. :)

Hi,

with the latest version from today, the difference in speed details are fixed.
also the performance for showing the session was improved.
Now you can also write a note about your session
and new session types: Foil, RS:X , Formula and Raceboard was added.

in the next update I will include the color legend for the different speed values.

feedback is always welcome :)

I re-imported the data I sent you and one small fix needed is that on the home page, the speed shown above the smiley face doesn't match the 2 second top speed in the details. Mine still shows above the smiley face as 30.54kn also as 30.54 in the next screen, but as 29.88 in the 02s detail detail screen.

Hi,

ah, thats because the value shown there is the top speed for one measure point. so mostly it's the speed for 1s, but in case you use a high frequency device, its even less then a second.
As your devices recored with 5hz, this is the top speed for just: 250 ms
this value is there for non speed surfers to give them an idea how fast the were, where speedsurfers should have a look into the speed details.

did you see the icon below as a smily ? because then I need to change it :D as it should show a fin :D

Hi,

sorry for waiting long of an answer. I was at the german speed windsurfing master and didn't had wifi there.

ah yes that value :) its the same as i mean. so the value here and the value on the next screen is the maximum you achieved on one valid point (points with high error rate are filtered) 2sec speed you see at the moment only on speed details screen.

maybe I should change this

A new update for the WindsportTracker App is available today!

play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.sunbits.windsporttracker

WHATS NEW:

- Kiters: select your own disciplines and your own gear

- select your favorite sport: Windsurfing, Kitesurfing or both

- add notes to gear, to know how to setup for proper wind

- add sessions manually, don't miss your log and get your gear statistics up to date even you couldn't record it

- voice feedback for your current speed, control at what interval you want to hear your current speed, also configure minimum speed when voice starts and speed runs end.

- when you make a GPX export, all your session data is exported, this included also gear with all notes, recording device etc.

- when you import a GPX file (which was created with the WindsportTracker app) all your data will be imported, existing gear will be linked and non existing will be created.

- now also see your VMG speed. VMG stands for: Velocity made Good, its the maximum speed you reached at a course when your goal is to sail where the wind is coming from, or where the wind is going to

- at least in Europe we had some colder days, so new session disciplines where added: Snow-Surfing, Ice-Surfing, Wind-Skating, Snow-Kiting, Kite-Buggy, Wind-Sup and Sup

besides that also the UI got some improvements for added new gear or for editing session details

download the lates update from the Google Play sore and try it out.
We want to here your feedback as it helps us make the app even better!

Hi,

at the moment the development focus is on Android. Apple have some limitations that doesn't allow the full feature set. Also the cost of buying an older / used Android device is cheaper than a current iOS (Apple doesn't allow building for old iOS Versions)

Maybe you have a friend or family member who have an old Android device that you can try to test the app.

If there will be any iOS version in the future I will let you know.

Hi, this looks like a great app. But I don't want to take my expensive phone out into the surf. Any chance of Android Wear support? (I have a Nixon Mission watch.) I don't know how hard it is to add this.

I've found an app GHOSTRACER which will track on Android Wear watches, the export .GPX file which can be imported into WINDSPORT TRACKER.

I love your app, Matthias. But it would help if there were a legend to indicate what the colours and pins represent on the map. Also, I have not been able to specify gear for the sessions. I've added the gear to the gear list but nothing comes up within the session.

Hi thank you very much :)
and sorry for the late response, somehow I don't receive emails when someone replies here.

to answer your questions:
I have the Nixon watch too, and support for it will be the next big feature I will work on. Some little changes needs to be finished before as the clock support might take a bit longer to finish.

Good point, need to add the info about the color's.
usually they are:
white: non planing ( 18 km/h < 25km/h)
then from 25kmh upwards the color gets from dark green into yellow into light red till dark red where dark red is more then 65 km/h

you can only add gear to a sessions, once the session is finished recording / importing.

then you just need to open the session, now either click on the blue box: select board/sail/fin or the edit pen right to the name of the session.
Once in edit session screen, click on the blue boxes again to now select your gear.
When you finished editing / selecting gear, press the save button.

Does this answer your questions ?

best Matthias
