They probably bought it dirt-cheap as NASA surplus (as this GFC is playing hell with NASA's funding), then flogged off the scramjet for it's scrap-metal value; it's a Mach 10 engine and I dare say there's a fair amount of titanium in those suckers (pun intended
).
Not to worry, if you give the "Graveyard" in Arizona a call you might be able to pick up one of the Minutemen they had lying around last time I was there. Strap one of them on to your Hypersonic & you'd be a good chance for taking the speed-record back from kiters.....
