hi guys
be aware that the gt 11 is not water proof mine drowned in its bag
they say that they are waterproof to standard Water proof to IEC529 IPX7
but this means really only splash proof although they do say immersible to 1metre
dont do it
i took mine apart after it drowned and was shocked at the little effort to make it water proof no rubber seal at all on the main unit only on the memory card compartment
any one know where the best deal on the gt11 unit is at the moment
i will be double or tripple bagging the new unit from now on

Thats odd. I have also seen a disassembled GT-11 and it was quite impressive (at least compared with a Garmin Foretrex). The one I saw had a rubber seal all the way around the casing join and the window/screen was actually glued in.

The only thing I worry about is getting the card door latched properly before I put it in my Aquapac. My Aquapac actually leaks quite a bit but my GT-11's have been working fine for almost a year now.

The best simple strategy if you want a bit more insurance is to put the GPS in a plastic zip lock bag before slipping it into the Aquapac. I have even used two zip lock bags when putting my mobile phone in the Aquapac (the good one, not the leaky one )

sorry guys yes there is indeed a rubber that the two sections of the case embed into very small protection 1.5mm wide but there just the same.
it looks to be intact but i did notice that the 7 screws that hold the 2 parts together were not very tight.
my gt11 was also about a year old and this was the first contact it had with water

Simon Fyfe in Queensland at Board Crazy. Can order on line, and he will look after you (he is a team Capt Board Crazy boys on GPS Challenge)
And yep they dont like any moisture, so put them in a sandwich bag, just to be sure

There are many local suppliers. On the Sunshine Coast Al Green http://www.caloundracitysailboards.com.au can set you up.

We ordered ours online, wanting the Bluetooth model, from www.storagedepot.co.uk

Postage was surprisingly cheap, and it took no time to get here (about a week at Christmas peak time)

Only drawback was that it came with a UK plug, but since we charge it on the computer or in the car, that isn't a problem.
