Just read today in the Sydney Sunday Telegraph on page 67 about a new challenger for the outright speed record. It's a craft called Wotif (sponsors) and is an assymetrical (can only go one way) vehicle that is hopefully going to try and break the record sometime in February next year on Botany Bay. It's piloted by 2 people, one controls the direction and the power of the fixed wing, the other runs the foils. It's 40 foot long and has a wingspan of 27 feet. Parts of the boat are literally designed to fall off it when not required to reduce drag.
Interesting......

This sounds like a very serious attempt...will either do it... or self-destruct on first real attempt to top 50kts!

I wonder what they have in mind for supercavitating foils.
Can you imagine a fin running in a gas bubble - the very definition of spinout. A lifting foil (hydrofoil) on the other hand would benefit I expect.

It will be interesting to see WotRocket on Botany bay. Earlier they said they wanted to sail it up by the airport, it will make it pretty interesting there, given it can be crowded there on a good day already.
