Kites are bloody quick and have a huge potential for speed and the Lechanault inlet would be a good area to fire it up in anger. Then the only thing you will have to source would be a quick board.


If you want to go with Speed Windsurfing then you have to look at where you are going to sail for the board which you will need.

Coming from Bunno you possibly know Bender, he's getting into the speed gig with a vengeance and should be good for a chat and some advise.

Being ex formula you'll be used to being on the edge.

Regarding how much money.... How much you got?

A mate of mine says he knows somebody in Rockingham with an F2 speed board for sale, but I'm not sure if it's a missile.

I'm around 70kgs and also new to speed sailing, (3 months) I've been using a recut Avalon Sail Co race sail, it's somewhere between 5.5 and 5.7M So far it's been fine for most of our sessions, just a bit small for light days and a bit big for the stronger days. Think I could get away with just 2 sails a 6.5 and a 5.0,
With the 5.0 I'd use a board about 470 wide, and about 520 for the 6.5

water condition does make quite a difference to the type of board best suited.

The different spots have quite varied conditions to contend with and in some cases dedicated speed boards can be detrimental to going quick.

Vando's right you can pick up 2nd hand kit cheaply which still goes quick. As you've done formula you've seen the price of new gear.

I still wouldn't discount your kite as an option though, we have a couple of speed strips in Mandurah which are ideal for Kites which Green pat and a few others will be hitting in summer.
