Hi Guys,

Just starting to have fun with my gps, Wineman told me I could upload my tracks on ka72 speed reader.

Works fine, then I can upload to google earth overlay (even better !)

Question : my track is sometimes green/white/red on the google map. Any meaning to this ? (top speed, slowest spot ...)

Thanks

The coloured sections are some of the peak speeds etc. If you open the file in Google Earth, you will see that there is basically one long track (in white) which is your whole session, then there are some smaller track segments overlaid on it for the various divisions, such as 2s peak.

In Google Earth, you can show or hide each layer, so you can show only your 5x10 segments, and it is pretty easy to work out which is which. I can't remember off hand which colour is for which division.

Cheers,

Dylan.

Warning! Warning!

You are going to become addicted to GPS & fun

You may even set a record for the first French team any where in the world.

Because there is NO FRENCH TEAM that is game to compete [}:)][}:)]

see, it's the Aussie in you that wants to play!

How do you hide the layers Dylan?

red is your 2 sec peak
green is your best alpha (gybe)
blue is your nautical mile
dark grey (black?) are your 5X10 sec
light grey is your one hour
white is the rest of the track

Thanks for the info Guys (and girls !)

Yes starting to enjoy it Peter !
A bit concerned that my record 2 sec was in the roughest section (1 m waves) between duck island and Ilot maitre !! (could be a jump ?)

Can I be a team on my own ?

Sean,
Great to hear you've got yourself a GPS. As Wineman said its very addictive and no doubt you'll be able to convince a couple more local sailors so you can register a team in the GPS Team Challenge (being French, maybe "the Flying Frogs")

In the interim I'm positive there'd be a team in Aus to take you on board.

Windxtasy,
to turn off individual category layers open file in GE and in the menu bar find the GPS file then untick the category boxes you don't want. It's a great resource where you can turn off the hour category and overall session track and only have the 5x10 sec runs, nm, alpha and 2 sec categories to analyse.

I sailed today with a guy (faster than me ) who had a gps, I might ask him to team up.

I scored a 34.77 today !! still with my hellcat. Hum...might have to invest in a 6.5 race sail to replace it !

Has anyone experienced this :

uploaded a track on ka72 a week ago, top speed was 34.77
uploaded it again yesterday and now top speed is 49 knts !!!!!

Checked on the google map overlay, the red segment is not on the same location as the 34.77

It is indeed where I was trying the slingshot technique and I was certainly blasting (flat water) but 49 knots !!!

how could a gps track change in a week ?

Ask Dylan (see second post). He's the programmer who designed the site. I'm sure he'd be keen to check it for you.
