All set for this weekend??

Forecast looks ok - building NE'r. But might be light to start off with - so we will allow SUP's to keep the fit freaks amused

Team Nelson win the IYC 6 hour marathon. Team captain Mike Nelson commented "We are very proud to have kept the lead in front of tough competition from Tim Ford's Mavericks, which had the brother of legendary Irish sailor Barry Hurley on the team". The 2 teams from DAC finished in third and fourth.

What a great day...floating ice rink, bouncy castle, learn to windsurf trailer & instructors.
Great to see raceboards, div II boards, Formula and slalom boards all racing at once.

Chris - I have nothing to say about your comment a couple of posts up. No comment at all ;-)

awesome day! the wind was perfect - first NE gusts came through right on 10am, built up to 15kn shortly after lunch and started to die around 3:30 with the formula boards still managing to get around at the death.

we got away early, before the wind got to formula strength, closely followed by the DAC teams. Once the wind came in the marauder vikings from the north (aka Tim Ford Maveriks) had a huge come back making up a eight lap deficit in a little over an hour to be 2 laps off the pace and 2nd place.

Thats the way it stayed for the rest of the afternoon, despite the fact of the yelling, baracking, sledging that ensued for the last few hours - i've never seen such passionate yelling from the shoreline before (seemed alot of it at me??) - it was absolutely awesome!!!

hats off to Ken Innes, who sailed 29 laps, in a near solo effort. His one and only team mate Michael kept the team going while Ken re-rigged but otherwise Ken took it on and was still going at 4 - top work!

during the whole day learn to windsurf lessons kept going, plus demo'ing of gear, and heaps of free-riders just having fun - massive thanks to Ann and Sam and the crew from WindSurf 'n Snow for their efforts.

all in all a great day for windsurfing and for the Illawarra Yacht Club Windsurfers and look forward to next year (already got a few more ideas to make it more inclusive for all levels - any feedback let me know!!)

thanks to everyone who travelled down, and all who participated!

Really great event. It was really good fun racing with WOD, raceboards, Formula and even a loan SUP.
My kids lean't how to windsurf, while we drank coffee and watch the race develop.

I get the feeling this event is going to huge as it was so much fun for the whole family.

PS, getting 2nd sucks....

Well done Team Nelson from "the family"! Although I'm sure at least some of the competition were distracted on the day wondering about the outcome of the election count back in the motherland.

So there was a reason behind the vague distracted look!? it was the look that lot normally have so we didn't waste too much time worrying about it (too busy beating them anyway).
