Hi all, I'm planning a windsafari from Sydney to Newcastle in October but have never been that way before (I'm based in Melbourne). I would really appreciate any info on any unmissable windsurfing spots (flat, bumpnjump, small wave) along the way?

I'll have a van, windsurfing wife and two kids in tow, and a couple of weeks to burn
Can't wait but where to go?

Hi,

Do you know the distance between Sydney and Newcastle isnt that big, around 150 kms or less depending how you measure it? If you have a month to travel there are some great windsurfing spots north of Newcastle and south of Sydney.

Its possible to go for a month without much wind.

Edit, from what you are writing there are a few places that would be good for you along the Central Coast. On the southern end I'm familar with some beaches around Broken Bay. Umina Beach is a good spot with smaller surf.

Thanks for tips - with luck we'll be heading back to Melbourne via Merimbula. Yes I expect to get further than Newcastle if there are good spots up there! Any suggestions would be great please.

Port Stephen and surrounds, north of Newcastle, is a top windsurfing spot.

Sydney to Newcastle:

Wave sailing:
Umina Beach: Southerly
Toowoon Bay: Best Wavesailing in a Southerly
Birdie Beach: North Easter
Wamberal Beach: ok wavesailing in a North Easter but can get pretty heavy
Nobbys Beach: Newcastls own windsurfing beach, North Easter or Southerly, also good for landing your tanker.

Flatwater sailing:
Tuggerah Lake: Toukley in a Southerly, The Entrance in a North Easter
Lake Macquarie: Good flatwater sailing in any wind direction
