thinking of going for a hol
trying to keep price down so decided on fiji + the good wife needs some r&r
thought it would be a good place to go good wind warm water !!!!
just wonderd if anyone hase any info on hire serveces or should i take my own?
don't really wona do that as i like to travel light
any info or recomendations would be greatley apreciated

DavMen was over there for a week last winter, and it sounded great. He stayed at Warren's - he couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Went to Fiji, stayed at Warren's, in July. A good winter destination, good wind stats, great place to stay, a cultural experience, great music, kava on the house, good food. Pretty cheap too, no extra costs at all over Warren's listed prices - apart from your beer. Transport to and from airport is included for whenever you choose to come and go. Easy to take your own gear, take one board and 2 or 3 sails, borrow Warren's gear for the unexpected conditions. Lagoon sailing varying from very flat stretches to nicely spaced chop/swell. The outer reef a couple of km further filters out the big swell. figure out where the bommies are and sail at all tides

Also went to lord Howe ( all my holidays came at once). Similar sailing conditions, longer flat water sections and more of an intact wave coming through and over the reef. (No outer reef). Might be more wavesailing potential than I discovered. More wind the fortnight I was there, but not sure of the comparative long term stats.

Lord Howe is more expensive, although it is closer and with shorter travel times you can sail the day you get there, and the morning before you leave. Travel with gear is more difficult, it's a Dash 8 rather than a Jumbo. Pm Tim "Lord Howe" to get the latest. Not so much of a cultural experience, but that's balanced by it being a world heritage listing. It's colder than Fiji, but there's a warm current (responsible for the worlds most southerly coral reefs). You don't get cold at all sailing in a full wettie, but put on a jacket if you come off the water for a break. Much warmer than Botany Bay is in mid winter.

At this time of year WA would also be on the list to consider.

I've not been to Fiji, but I have had lessons from him up at Winda Woopa and can highly recommend.

A couple of us were over there, first week of September 2008. We brought our own gear, on Virgin, just escaping the new sports baggage charge scheme. So we paid nothing. We visited warren's place, which is a nice spot. We didn't sail there all the time. We didn't stay at Warren's place, but just across on the main Island. Warren can arrange transfers to the Nananu-I-Ra island, through a place called Ellington wharf, on the main island. One thing I can say about that time of year, is that the conditions were great. Virtually every day was sailable, in the range of 15-20kts. On most days, the winds were blowing around the clock. If you are staying at Warren's place, intending to use his gear, I'd recommend bringing a larger sail, as I recollect that his largest was 6.5m. Warren has a good deal, if you want to stay in his Dorm accommodation, which includes meals.
